Showa A kit or ohlins ttx

Recommended Posts

given that the A kit is as far as we know basically the same internally as production(in terms of basic mid and base valve setups using the same concept as production) , it looks to me the TTX is the one i would go for, its a different concept and much cheaper.

In testing with the WP fork (nitrogen charged) I have found it to have some advantages - and some disadvantages.

My conclusion on the set up is there is a reason kyb and showa are sticking with a spring to pressurize the cartridge...but a subtank style system on the nitrogen side of the wp would be very, very interesting.

If the initial pressures get too high in the nitrogen side (fill pressure) it is harsh on the slower stuff...as if it has too much spring rate essentially.

Too much preload on an ICS brings a similar result - so it is no surprise...but the entire system is very finicky to the pressure it is set at.

I think the plusses are it performs very consistently and feels similar deep stroke as it does early stroke...when you hit a bump you really get the sense you know what it's going to feel like..

I do not personally have any time with the ohlins system. And the price seems excellent for a complete fork - can't really go wrong from that aspect.

So I agree - A kit is something you could achieve IMHO with OE parts. Maybe the ohlins is not.

Derek you may know this, but wp recommended pressures have dropped a bit over the years, started pretty high like 2.2 bar i think, but i seem to remember they may have run softer main springs to compensate, now its down to 1.2 bar?

The ohlins cartridge comes with 5 bar, how low/high do you recommend going in regards to pressure

I have the correct springs for my weight, but only a few hours on the bike because of the weather, so it would be nice with some info before testing

Have ttx both front and rear ,crf250 2011

Thanks

I would spend $3-500 on some advanced riding lessons first...too many guys trying to buy speed the wrong way. Lots of vet riders could go just as fast on a 90 CR250 as a 2011 CRF450.

Duno buddy pretty sure i can im qualified 2 do advanced riden courses thanks, u might wanna ask some question before u just start mouthen off

the fact that its only a 8mm rod might have something to do with the high pressures in the ttx? also might have something to do with the rebound issues i've heard about?

I would like to hear what you have "heard"

If you mean a spring preload-I went up to 5mm and the ride became very harsh.AFAIK Ohlins recommends -1 to 5mm somewhere??....Currently I run 1mm and very low float (0.2) on the MV+ some other modifications. Important to know is the bike: 09 Husaberg FE570-awfully rocking back and forth all the time!!!

didn't get into detail but people i've talked to from our race series that ran them had issues getting the rebound stack balanced between h/s and l/s....bad enough that they sold them after much frustration. that was enough for me not to bother......i do run the shock though and find it ok but has a few issues of its own with reb theres a feller who used to work for ohlins that says he has the fix,i'm pretty sure its just the 10.8 spring i'm running makes me dial in too much reb at the clicker and needs some more reb stack so as to open up the bypass to eliminate the spike,he said something about the needle....we'll see:thumbsup:

as with any suspension its all in the tuning, with enough work i even made a good fork out of my 46 kyb's:thumbsup:
