KTM 350 SXF Throttle Position sensor!!!!

Recommended Posts

so i went and put the boot on my tps today. now when i start it, i get 6 flashes on the warning lamp. the manual says the code means "throttle position sensor cirtcuit A- input signal too high or too low."

anyone know what this means and why its doing that? never had any issues with the bike before.

Most guys make a small cut on the inside of the rubber bootie so they can just pry it over the TPSS and then zip-ty/elec. tape it around.

Exactly...you can open a new can of worms by unplugging the wires. Just go ahead and slit the boot lengthwise, slip it over the cable and glue the rubber back together with Superglue or similar cyanoacrylate glue. Clean and effective.

well at the shop they told me to just cut the narrow end of the rubber thing not the whole piece and then take the tps and squeeze it through. i guess i was supposed to just undo the connector and not remove the whole thing. ?

Do you understand how the TPS is working? It is a variable resistor that changes its resistitance according to the movement/position of the throttle. Now for the ECU to be able to determine the correct value, TPS resistance and throttle position have to be set to a default. This can be done with either the dealers XC-1 tool or the UST. The moment you removed the TPS from the TB this default position has been lost and needs to be reset. In your case you re-installed the TPS in such a way that the value it is transmitting to the ECU is out of a range that makes sense and thus you get a FI warning. What happens more often is that when re-installing the TPS the value is off only by a small amount but still within the possible range. No FI error in this case and actually worse of a situation than yours. Why, well because if the value is off the bike is not running at 100% but many never realize what the cause is. You cannot accurately set the TPS without the help of the above tools!!!

Well, CRAP, I figued I'd do the safe preventative thing nd finally install the rubber cover i've had for a month, my 350 has been runnning flawless for a year now, so I unlpugged the wire, did not touch the TPSS, slit and installed the cover plugged the wire back in fitted the boot, now it has a terrible bog and the FI light flashes 6 times UGG guess its off to the dealer in the morning, thankfully they are across the street.

OK never mind, I dont think I had the plug all the way set, it pulled right out with the rummer cover, so I re plugged it in until it snapped into place, runs like atop now, and no flashing lights!!

Okay. I have a 250SXF 2011. And I've taken it to the mechanic twice for the same reason. The mechanic just keeps saying it's water in the electrical connections. The tps is siliconed. Hell I even siliconed all exposed wire connections cause it's pissing me off. Now when I twist the throttle fast my bike stalls or almost stalls. I've tried changing the fule filters in the tank, tried different fuel and I've put the stock pipe back on it. Any help would be much appreciated.....
