CRF450R Best Performance mods???

Recommended Posts

Ok i bought a 2004 CRF450R Supermoto to race this year, it has a TON of aftermarket parts on it, mostly cosmetics, to my knowledge the engine is stock. But it has a full white brothers Pro Aluminum pipe on there, K&N filter, but apparently the jetting has not been changed??? But the bike runs good, although im thinking it may be a little lean??

Im wondering what the next performance mod is for the money? The current pipe seams like it has awsome flow...the can is completely open, with no restriction, very loud!

Here she is....

Has the suspension been revalves for your weight and ridding? No point in having a ton of power if you cant put it to the ground right. Otherwise a high performance Hot cam camshaft would give you a boost in power. Also, a vortex ignition would let you control your output with the flick of a switch.

The guy i bought it from said it has been re-valved for his weight, which isant far off of mine, and the supension seams great. It also has some pro taper triple clamps.

You might take it out and try racing it first and getting use to it and see how the power is for your skill levell .after that theres options .you may not be able to match Wards riding Skills but your engine can be made to smoke his .

Couple more questions....

My header pipe swipes down tword the skid pan then back up....unlike the stock pipe. So i quess its longer, how does that change the power curve?

Also how do you go about oil changes? My plan is to get a sen-dec hour meter which should give me an idea of when the oil needs changing.

Im assuming you guys dont wait till the oil gets dirty before an oil change, seeing as this bike needs good oil in it.

Re-valving is for type of riding (e.g. motard, MX, SX, enduro, etc.) not weight. Spring rates are changed based on weight. Even assuming the spring rates are right for your weight and the valving is set up for motard, setting the sag and getting the clickers adjusted will make a difference. Also, I don't see a steering stabilizer. That would be a huge improvement in handling.

  • 2 years later...

do yourself a favor and replace the crank. Pull the one thats in it and send it to falicon racing and have them build it for you. look it up online.. my 04 through the piston through the front of the cases and completly destroyed everything in the motor top and bottom. these bikes were not designed to run at the rev limiter for 8-25 laps. Its soooo much cheaper to build the crank now and not have to worrie about needing a complet new motor with a race on the next weekend! Trust me it SUCKS... Also look into copper intake seats and burrilium exhaust guides.. It will keep you from always replacing the intake valves..... Again saves you big fat bucks in the long run... call edco engine dynamices for the headwork 707-763-7519... good luck.. you should race supermotousa. check it out at www.supermotousa.com....

Repack the silencer so it IS QUIET. Loud bikes are killing the sport.

There's no excuse for an unmuffled loud pipe on any bike, unless you're one of those HD people that think noise is funny.

It is a race bike so who cares but IN GENERAL I totally disagree, loud pipes save lives. You must not ride a street bike huh. There has been plenty of times in parking lots or slow traffic when my panic rev and loud pipe has made people notice me and kept me from getting backed into or sideswiped. If I had one of the new newfangled super hippie 2.0 ultra mega quiet pipes on my bikes theres no doubt in my mind I would have had some major roadrash, broken bones or been killed. Even on dirt bikes, plenty of times ive used my exhaust to get the attention of stupid riders or sand rail drivers at glamis. Killing the sport or not, Ill keep my loud pipes thank you very much.

Why not use your horn. Loud pipes don't save lives. Fine for racing though.

You ever hear the horn on most street bikes? If there is ANY traffic at all you can not even hear it what so ever. They are like freaking tricycle horns. My bikes exhaust is WAY louder than my horn and gets peoples attention way faster and easier so in my case id say its saved my life or at least my bones and skin at least a few times.
