Favorite hour meter?

Recommended Posts

AFAIK, they are often the same units with different reseller names and features. Personally, I like the ones that have the tach feature. While the tach is only useful for setting idle speed, that really is the only time I need it. They all have about a 10 year life expectancy. So keep an eye on it. When the battery dies, that is it. No gettign a new one and setting the meter to match what the old one read.

They'll show max RPM, too. Kinda fun to know.

I have a Tusk on my RM and the TTR, and another cheap brand on the KLX. The YZ is nice having the app which tracks hours and all that. The TTR never shows me the correct RPM's though unless I hold the wire that's going from the lead to the meter against the frame with one finger. If I just leave it be while running, it shows around 6K rpm's at idle.

I buy the cheapies on Ebay.  But- something I have noticed about the two I have bought, is that they both read lower hours than what my Yamaha internal clocks have reported.  The Yamaha clock is consistently about 10% less run time.  The difference is ok though, because I use my hour meter as a reference for the timing of oil changes.

I'm glad you brought this idea up!  I am getting ready to do an extensive remodel/upgrade to my KDX220 and had thought (and then forgot) about installing an hour meter.  That said, I found a mechanical, analog one for a very reasonable price that will work nicely.  Shipping is quite reasonable too.    https://www.greatlakesskipper.com/hobbs-169635-black-electro-mechanical-boat-honeywell-hour-meter?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=&scid=scplp1050103B&sc_intid=1050103B&gclid=CjwKCAiAp8iMBhAqEiwAJb94z_goB_KEVfzmpklmdipkBYz0HX90NdoYMk2e-umce0u1I44JyMOVuhoCfRQQAvD_BwE
