If it's a 'good buy' also depends on your intended usage,

for recreational mx track riding, perhaps but that depends on your experience and size.

For trail/off-roading, no so much.

 

At 20 years old, future parts availability also becomes a concern if you intend to ride it a lot or, keep it for a long time.

Then I'd avoid a 20 year old CR125 probably owned / maintained by someone younger than that 

and, put all funds/efforts in just finding the bike you want. 

Also keeping in mind that any CR250 you'll find is already at the very least 14 years old by now.

Also this is the bike I want, and if I got this bike it would be just about all my money, in my area we do t care about age and stuff,it’s just what we have...We’re "working people that are "poorer" "

I'd say so don't worry about the parts availability you can use motor parts from previous years 90-99 will all interchange directly. If you get well versed enough certain parts from 90-07 will work. I think the only bike that's had a longer span parts run is the current yz's. I'd say get it they are some sick bikes for running in the sport cheap.

Try to get it for a little less. If you do get bike tear it down so you can grease everything and get a look at the parts. The exhaust port will tell you how well he the maintenance was. Take pipe off and see if it looks like a gummed up sewer pipe or is clean.

Just keep in mind any 2stroke you buy will need a topend done at some stage could possibly need a replate of cylinder an possibly other smaller things like airfilter gas oil bolts or you might not need any of these you wont know till you tear it down an get in there the engine an the frame bolts rounded stripped but like I said you might get lucky then you have to ask them look them in the face why are you selling it for an see there face if there lieing or not hope I didnt scare you off buying it lol

The bike looks clean, and the seller's shop looks like he knows how to spin a wrench. Ask about (confirm) fresh grease on the steering & rear suspension linkage. 

Like @waysherrsaid, that is a good year. It should be a worthy replacement for your KX100. ?

O.E.M. parts may be hard to come by later. Aftermarket suppliers should be able to cover maintenance items for years to come.

$2000 seems a little steep; try to talk him down the cost of a graphics kit. :D

I wouldn’t worry about age either. I’m pretty sure we won’t have a problem getting parts for these bikes for a long time. BUT I honestly would look at cr250s right now, skip the 125 they are weak, specially if you plan on going to the dunes at all. You should definitely be able to find a decent 250 for around the same price and then you won’t have to worry about getting another bike anytime soon. With a 125 it won’t be long until your going to want more power, and when you first get a 250 you don’t have to ride it balls out, you can still putt around on it until you get more confident. I have a 2001 cr250 and I’ve literally put 100s of hard hours on it without touching the engine and just doing routine maintenance (which I’ve been really lucky and would not recommend putting much more then a 100 hours without at least a top end and checking the bottom end). But it’s been a great bike to say the least. I’m actually rebuilding the whole bike top to bottom as we speak.

I'll explain my criteria when I say current and future parts availability can be of concern,

not talking about regular wear items like piston, clutch etc. as there are multiple aftermarket sources for those

but rather some critical OEM only parts.

the following aren't listed at all anymore, no doubt discontinued from Honda:

 

- CDI unit

- many power valve components

- many gearbox components

 

It doesn't have to be a 20 year old bike to eventually require any of those parts replaced,

in recent years my 2010 YZ125 needed all of them.
