Drz400 Subframe

I've got a DRZ400E that's street legal and I've been trying to get a drz400s subframe so I can load the back with gear for some longer trips. Does anyone have one they'd be willing to sell or know where to get one? I don't see any on eBay for a reasonable price. Thanks in advance!

They bring a premium because of supply and demand.   Also every up and coming stunter wads theirs up and needs a replacement as well.   Why not use a soft saddle bag setup on your E w a good rack?  The subframe is more than capable of handling that.

That makes sense, i want to use soft bags probably some of the wolfman rollies and get one of their bases. I just wasn't sure if the e could handle it and haven't seen much on people loading the e. Guess may as well stick with it and start from there. Better than dropping 500 on one if I don't need it.

Almost correct...an Aussie E is an American E. (add Plastic tank, different cooling system, larger header diameter etc. to your list) with the only difference being between the E subframes.

The E subframe in Australia has a full loop over the mudguard. The exhaust mount and pillion peg brackets still remain different to the S.

The road registerable E that we get (here in NZ) and Australia get has the loop on the subframe for the taillight and number plate mounts.  Where it differs is that the passenger foot pegs and helmet lock have been removed also the exhaust hanger is that of an E model.  It has the road going master cylinder (S/SM) with a brake switch for the front brake, that is larger than the dirt only master cylinder and the same switch as the S on the rear for the back brake.  The headlight shroud is the same as the S/SM as is the front light (DOT approved) and is mounted on the steel bracket around the fork legs.   The front indicators and rear indicators and dot approved brake light all look like the S/SM version.  The dirt E uses a "strap on" style headlight shroud with smaller headlamp as part of the shroud and no high beam. The road E's instrument cluster, key and hand controls (including the start run switch) are that of the S/SM. The Dirt E only had a mechanical Odometer, keyswitch, start button and kill button.  My recollection is the road E doesn't have the side stand switch nor does the dirt E (but I may be corrected on this), certainly both E versions have the clutch switch.  The road E shares the cooling setup with dirt E, that's parallel radiators and no thermostat, also no cooling fan.  The larger E header pipe is retained.  The cams, base gasket (higher compression) and 39mm FCR carburetor are all the same between E models as is the plastic tank.

For what it's worth I have also seen variances between SM models here.  Batch dependent, some are fitted with a sealed type muffler with non-removable end cap, these bikes also have the PAIR valve fitted and the solenoid for low gear restriction, the rear tail cluster is slightly different also - the lens of the brake lamp is more chamfered.  Other SM's get the standard muffler with the removable endcap, no PAIR valve or carb solenoid and have a larger, more square looking tail light. I suspect that we get whatever SM's Suzuki can supply from whatever market.

I haven't asked but I suspect that the dirt only E is no more, probably replaced by the road going version around 2010.  In New Zealand you would be hard pressed to find a S model at all, I think I have seen about 2 in the flesh in the last 10 years.

I have a setup that involves a wider rear rack with two legs that bolt to the side of the rack and then to the subframe through the tabs right above the subframe mounts. I used the rack for a while, but never mounted the side racks because you have to drill out the lower tab bolt holes.

https://www.moto-racks.com/Products4.html I believe this is the setup I have...bottom picture. I found these a few years ago and at the time the DRZ was the only bike I had to ride. I was planning on doing some trips with it, but decided not to. I since have gotten a street bike, so the DRZ is mainly an off road bike now. I think they were around $400 new, so not real cheap. I may let them go as I don't really need them anymore..
