SuperRev,

The 230F has a factory O-Ring chain, so WD-40 works great and don't leave a mess. Just roll the rear wheel while on a stand, spray the chain with WD until it's clean and well lubed, then wipe the excess with a shop rag and you're good. Wipes off the rims and swingarm easy, and cleans in the process.

The best "Axle" (Wheel Bearing Grease) is Bel-Ray Waterproof grease.. comes in a 16 oz container for $10 bucks. Works great for the front/rear wheel bearings, axles, swingarm bearings, steering stem, etc. Protects the bearings against corrosion/rust, and works great.

As a good rule of thumb, you should clean and lube your chain after every ride. I personally like to lube my chain before and after each ride with WD40. Only takes a few minutes, keeps the chain clean and well lubed, still looks like new.

If you have not already done so, you should replace/repack your wheel bearings at least once a year. Most riders normally do this during the winter months so the bike will be fresh and ready to go in the summer/warm months. Don't forget to replace/repack your swingarm/suspension bearings and the steering stem bearings. Keeps the bike tight, smooth, and handles significantly better when it has new/greased bearings.

Good luck.

has anyone got  the power up kit and fuel screw of crfs only ? is it any good ?

Joel,

I have a 2003 CRF 230F with the Power-Up kit and fuel screw. Also removed the snorkel from the top of the air box and removed the spark arrestor from the new BBR pipe so it can breath better.. best money I've spent on the 230F, really brought the bike to life. Runs great and bullet proof.

For $600, you can buy the Power-Up kit ($50.00) with Fuel screw ($20.00) for around 70 bucks total.. I would also put a tuned BBR exhaust pipe on it for around $200 bucks, remove the snorkel from the air box, and this bike comes to life. Replace/repack all the wheel bearings, swingarm/suspension bearings, steering stem bearings, and the bike will ride smooth and handle great. Not a lot you can do for $600 without going into the engine to change the piston, cam, port/polish work, etc... but I wouldn't waste my money on costly engine mods. The Power Up kit, pipe, and removing the snorkel from the air box will make a significant difference in power and torque.

You can have the forks serviced/rebuilt for around $200/$250 depending on your location.. sent my 230F forks and shock to FC. They rebuilt the forks/shock for $225.00 and I installed a new FC lowering link for another $90.00 total. The bike rides very plush/smooth, handles great, don't bottom out on jumps, etc. However, suspension work can be expensive if you're not careful with who does the work. I dropped around $325 total in my wife's 230F suspension with FC, but to me it was well worth the cost for the quality of work in return. My wife's 230 rides and performs/pulls better than a new 2013 230F.. fun bike to ride, reliable, and never quits.!

Good luck.

Power-Up Kit includes:

  • Power Up Needle
  • #132 Main Jet
  • #135 Main Jet
  • #45 Pilot Jet

Fuel Screw for $20.00
