1995 ktm 300 exc need to change clutches

How hard is it to change the clutches in my 95 ktm 300 exc ... whats a good set to use. Any info will be very helpful

If you are just changing the plates, it is very easy.. The basket is a little more involvesd. Why do you think the clutch needs changed?

I see a lot of guys using Rocky mtn clutch kits with goood results, last time I replaced a set (07 400 exc) I used the Vesera (sp).

Get ya a outer clutch cover gasket and remove the outer CC remove the 5 10mm bolts,washers and springs, remove the fiber and metals plates keeping the metal plates (or replace if you get tthe kit with, I recomend this on that old a bike, install new Ckit. Reinstall clutch boss and springs washers and bolts then gasket and cover.done. Easy.

When pull the clutch lever in it dosnt want to stop.. of i do stop it dies. I did adjustments on cable dosnt make a difference.

I am guessing that the basket is grooved.. You can do a temp fix if this is the case by filing the notches flat again,.. This is a temp fix but should get ya by.. First though inspect the plates and basket.. Pretty easy to do on a KTM

I was at farmboys this weekend and we pulled the clutch out. Basket and inner hub were really grooved out. New parts on order.

He had 2 different lengths for springs in there, is that normal? 3 were longer by about 1/2". I didn't see where a short and long spring were listed in the manual. Just said clutch spring qty of 6.

As far as I know all the springs should be the same.. According to the parts phisch for 95 there is only one part number for that spring.

That's what I saw as well. Wanted to make sure it wasn't just unlisted. I'm guessing PO must have did that to try and stop the dragging or something. Thanks for the help!

Been working on bikes fro 30+ years and have owned a bike shop and have never seen one with different size springs, This would cause uneven wear and warping any whoo. I would order a new set of springs.

Ok i changed clutch basket and inner hub damn thing still wont stop when i pull in clutch leaver

Did ya change the cable as well? I run 75W gear oil as heavier oil causes stiction between the plates.. Otherwise pull the cover and visually check if the plates are moving.

I assume that you changed the plates with the basket and hub? I'm with Zilla on the cable. I've never even seen a 95 300,but is it possible to look in the oil fill hole to visually confirm that the plates are moving apart? I'm sure the solution will be an adjustment somewhere.

Can you feel any resistance at the lever? I know the older KTMs had a tendency to have clutch drag some but it sounds like that clutch isn't working at all?

I got good movement on the plates. Cabel feels good.

But i did put 80w oil back in it. The guy i bought it from gave me a quart and said make sure thats all i put in it.

Maybe i need a thinner oil???
