xt 350 to high compression to start

Recommended Posts

The XT350 has an automatic compression release that's activated from the fully relaxed position of the kick lever . If you bring the kick lever down to where you feel resistance , the compression release is no longer in effect . Kick from the fully relaxed ( as far up as possible ) position with the intention of not stopping until the lever hits the foot peg .

Lever all the way up . Kick through until the lever hits the peg .

If you bring the lever down slowly , you should hear a small 'click' . That click is the decompression setting / releasing itself .

but every time i kick it likes to just stop me should i do the slow down then kick hard?

Maybe the compression release is not functioning .

Post a pic of the kick lever , ready to kick .

There should be a small lever just ahead of the kick shaft that moves slightly when kicking the lever .

i kicked it slowly and then tryed hard kick and it kicks all the way down it just doesnt kick when i keep kicking over and over also theres oil on the fins and stuff i dont know if thats from it sitting 2 years or if theres a problem

Pic would be helpful, as pd said it should kick down fine from its fold out position. Has it got a spark? There should be a cable running from near the kick start round to the frront of the cylinder head, this is the decomp cable. As for the oil, nope shouldnt be there unless it was covered in it in storage, all the oil would have drained down during those 2 yrs. try wiping everything down and apply a light dusting of talc, this will pinpoint any oil leak

Ok, so the decomp cable is there, does it move when you kick the lever, its not a huge amount but visible none the less. before you go any further, have you checked its sparking, just whip the plug out, ground it on the cylinder head and kick it over...........no spark points more to battery/coil/ignitier issue. Is it getting fuel is the next question after is it sparking?

the cable moves and were going to check the spark later but the battery is dead and it wont hold a charge... do you need the battery
