CRF450 R 'Cam Specs' !

I put this list together a few years ago. Thought I'd repost it for reference.

Honda Cams

Honda 2004-2005 HRC Cam - Part # 14110-NLZ-650

Really strong to top end cam, with a decent mid range, but lacks bottom end.

Intake Lift(inches): .390

Exhaust Lift(inches): .350

Intake Lobe Center (degrees): 110

Exhaust Lobe Center (degrees): 105

Intake Duration (degrees at .040"): 260

Exhaust Duration (degrees at .040"): 260

Honda 2002 CRF450R Cam - Part # 14110-MEB-670

A good all around cam, strong bottom and really strong mid range with a excellent top end as well.

Intake Lift(inches): .380"

Exhaust Lift(inches): .356"

Intake Lobe Center (degrees): 106.5

Exhaust Lobe Center (degrees): 107

Intake Duration (degrees at .040"): 249

Exhaust Duration (degrees at .040"): 272

Honda 2003 CRF450R Cam - Part # 14110-MEB-770

A good strong bottom and mid range cam. Slightly detuned from the 2002 R cam.

Intake Lift(inches): .380"

Exhaust Lift(inches): .336"

Intake Lobe Center (degrees): 109

Exhaust Lobe Center (degrees): 109

Intake Duration (degrees at .040"): 249

Exhaust Duration (degrees at .040"): 262

Honda 2006-07 HRC & Honda 2004,2005,2006 CRF450R Cam - Part # 14110-NLZ-610 & 14110-MEN-670

Really strong bottom with a decent mid range.

Intake Lobe Center (degrees): 107

Exhaust Lobe Center (degrees): 110

HotCams

HotCams Stage 1 - Part #1016-1

Decent bottom end and midrange increase. Signs off early.

Intake lift (inches): .378"

Exhaust lift (inches): .343"

Intake lobe center (degrees): 106.5

Exhaust lobe center (degrees): 103.5

Intake duration (degrees at 1mm): 237.5

Exhaust duration (degrees at 1mm): 268.5

HotCams Stage 2 - Part #1024-2

Good midrange and top end increase, good all-around cam. Lacks bottom.

Intake lift (inches): .402"

Exhaust lift (inches): .343"

Intake lobe center (degrees): 106.5

Exhaust lobe center (degrees): 103.5

Intake duration (degrees at 1mm): 248

Exhaust duration (degrees at 1mm): 268.5

HotCams Stage 3 - Part # 1056-3

More top-end power than Stage 2. Will work well for TT and big bore/strokers.

Intake lift (inches): .409"

Exhaust lift (inches): .356"

Intake lobe center (degrees): 116

Exhaust lobe center (degrees): 104.5

Intake duration (degrees at 1mm): 251.5

Exhaust duration (degrees at 1mm): 265

I've had personal experience with the 2002,2005 and 2007 450R cam in my 2006 450x with good results from all, the 2002 was the strongest by far but was very hard to ride at idle or small throttle openings, very good for wide open (full throttle). The 2005, was a good compromise, with good bottom, great mid and decent top end and the 2007 was the best for me, as I ride mostly hills, and tight single track with the occasional high speed fire road. Keep in mind, i'm not a racer anymore. So this is only my personal opinion.

I know that some of you are saying that you can't put the 2007 450r cam in a 2006 450x but you can, all you need to do is remove the old style De-comp and install the one from the 2007 along with the cam gear and it works fine. ?

Hot Cams Stage 1 has more midrange. Much more than any OEM cam.  

 

It's nice to know you have tried all the cams.............

 

Stage one HC merely moves the power band down in rpms.

It does not increase power, and in fact reduces peak power.

'05R cam has no change over stock until about 4800 rpms, where it starts to peak, and then peaks strongly from 5500 to 7000, and signs of a bit early. VERY strong midrange.

Yes I have dyno tested all of these cams on my eddy current Super Flow dyno. Stage 1 cam does in fact significanly increase total torque under the power curve compared to OEM.

Then they where installed incorrectly.

You really have to try not to get the cam installed correctly...and I mean really. The honda 450r series of motors are super simple to set the cam in and do the cam timing.
