A pipe that won't bend?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else have problems destroying their pipes on on yz250s? The stocker lasted the longest, but eventually it was a pretzel, my FMF was pretty good, and the pro circuit I just got barely made it a month before I hooked it enough in ruts that it is unusable. Are the DEP pipes any tougher? Does anyone know where I can get stockers at a reasonable price? I can't afford to keep replacing pipes from dragging them in corners.

the problem is that I am leaning the bike over far enough in deep hardpack rutted corners that the pipe is catching and bending. It isn't getting dented, the few pipe guards I have seen would still allow it to bend. I would ruin a carbon fiber guard in 2 rides or less. I am not particularly fast, just hard on things. I think I just need another stock pipe. Just have to find one.

RCannon, I completely agree. I want to somehow beef up the bends but let the pipe still dent. Dents are easily repairable, but getting a pipe back into shape after its wrapped around the frame, touching the powervalve cover and pushing the radiator up is way harder. My one month old PC pipe doesn't have a single dent. I had to muscle it off and once it came off it actually wouldn't go back on. Got my hands in a few ebay auctions for stockers, maybe I'll get lucky.

DEP has a thick, enduro pipe. I have one on my bike. The left side tucks in better than stock, but its thick. Hopefully not too strong..

Two-stroke pipes are considered consumable items. No matter what preventative measures you take, they will eventually get damaged. Get two pipes so you can rotate them, Send the damaged one out for repairs (if you can't fix it yourself) while you run the good one.

Like RCcannon says, better a bent pipe than a damaged exhaust port.

If you build a pipe that dosnt bend or take dents its olney going to wreck your mounts or your cylinder. No matter how ugly anybody tells you they are the best thing to protect pipes is Hyde racing pipe/skidplate guard. Ive seen many of them in person at hare scrambles in mn. Id buy one in a hart beet if I knew they fit dep pipes. Im still thinking of buying one to try and mold to fit my dep pipes. I run dep enduros on both my 250's

From what I'm gathering, the PC works pipe isn't the strongest. It is noticeably lighter than my raw FMF too. I didn't want to chance wasting $200 on another PC so I went back to FMF. Sucks because I thought the PC was a better performer.

I completely agree somthing has to give. But I would rather see the pipe dent than bend. Which in the PC works case, it is the exact opposite. The exahuse has no dents other than where it is pushed against the frame. Do any of the pipe repair facilities have jigs to realign everything? It was my understanding they just poped the dents. Thanks

Pacific Crest puts the pipe in a jig for repairs. It will come back with all the proper bends.
