2008 250 xcf battery charging system problems

Anyone have trouble with their 2008 250 xcf battery charging system?

I bought mine new in '08 and seem to have trouble with the battery holding a charge. The battery slowly dies off over long rides like the battery isn't getting charged with the motor and the electric start is gone. A friend said he heard that year had some problems with something in the charging system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No problems with mine charging, but I did just replace it with the TurnTech 2.5 battery.

It's probably just time for a new one.

Check at the battery with a meter. With the engine running you should have 13+ volts if you do its the battery.

Fred is right. Check the voltage sitting, start the bike, then rev the bike.

The voltage sitting should be lower than the voltage with the bike running, the voltage should rise and fall with the rpm's. If it does this you know if the battery is getting current from the bike.

It is also possible that there is a drain, like a wire that is shorting to the frame, that is causing your issue.

To check that take your multimeter, put it inline with the battery (disconnect the positive terminal of the battery and put the multimeter between the wire and terminal with the multimeter set up to read amps). If it reads anything other than zero you have a leak somewhere. Start disconnecting things until it goes to 0, then follow that until you determine where the issue is.

just to clarify, do the inline test on the positive terminal with the bike not running right?

I'll do some testing and see what i find out.
