Too Small For a DRZ400SM?

Recommended Posts

Hey Ive always loved the DRZ400SMs and finally have enough money to get a new bike. Im only like 5'3" but havent measured my height in a while. I ride a 2006 Yamaha XT225 and can just about flat foot. It has a 32" seat height. The DRZ has a 35" SH. havent got a chance to sit on one at the dealer yet but wondering what you guys think. Also, could the suspension be dropped easily? Thanks, Jon.

I have a 27" inseam and lowered my DRZ SM 3" to get a toe on the ground.

Do a search in the DRZ forum using the term "Lowering".

To see how much you will want to lower it, bring a bunch of 2X4 blocks and pile under your feet with them even on each side. If one works, a link will do, more than one and you need to have the suspension lowered internally.

You'll be fine, I'm a towering 62.5" with like a 27" inseam... my DRZ SM isnt bad to handle even at stock height. I don't have an issue with just a ball of a foot on the ground on one side.....I've been short along time and this is the easiest bike to handle so far....and i've had a number of them

Slip the forks up an inch in the triples, shave the seat foam down and you should be good to go.

If it's still too tall a lowering link for the rear and some logging boots might be your only out.

Night and day diff between the XT225 and DRZ400. I've had both and they are not even in the same class. You'll love the DRZ.

This is good to know...I've had similar concerns. I picked up a cruiser last year thinking it would be a good commuter since my 600RR is designated for track duty only.

I'm bored off my rocker w/that thing, and am looking to get rid of it and get a SM. I'm 5'6" on a good day, and want to start looking at doing SM trackdays. Anybody of a similar height using the DRZ-SM for that purpose at the stock height, stock seat etc., or did you need to lower, shave, etc.?

I guess the question, specifically mine needs to be clarified. Can a shorter rider, ride the DRZ the way it "should" be ridden as a supermoto?

I think I already know the answer, as I've seen pics of a 5'3" rider riding a WR250X with his foot out. I wouldn't mind hearing more others though.
