Veskimo active cooling review

Recommended Posts

Picked up a veskimo last week to help with my heat problems, took it for a ride today

What is it? It's a camelback with a AA battery powered waterpump, and a vest lined with 50' of IV tubing, similar vests are used by hospitals to cool patients, and are very popular with road racing, last week at road atlanta's NASA event they were selling coolshirts, a similar product

It lasted me about an hour and a half with ice from my fridge ice-maker, it cools so much that it leaves red marks on my skin where the IV lines touch. I used a vented jersey, your not supposed to do this as the vest burns up the ice cooling the air and your skin.

After my exploring I stopped at a gas station for a ice refill, 50 cents of ice, this ice only lasted 20 minutes, I think I had too much warm water in the camelback and not enough ice, next time I'll work harder to make sure I get mostly ice in there.

For me, this thing is the difference for me between riding and not riding when it's this hot, I already wear a camelback full of ice, so the weight difference is negligible, but it does mean I need to stop at the truck every hour for a refill of ice.

You can also go to a cooler setup, those will last substantially longer, but more suited for a dualsport with saddle bags. Freezing ice blocks or small water bottles also will last a lot longer, I will try this next time

ok.. so you wear that on the trails?

is there room for a chest protector? or even better yet.. a pressure suit? I wear the pressure suit on my skin with a vented jersey and it is insanely hot. soaked in sweat when im done, it stinks and makes riding un-bearable, but the protection it offers is amazing. im invincible with it on. I dont think it would work with the Veskimo otherwise I would consider getting one,

130$ for the vest and 250$ for the backpack... at 400$ shes not cheap!
