FCR MX 41mm-Where to buy

Recommended Posts

I am in the market to buy a FCR MX 41mm carb but don't know where the best place it to buy it. I would prefer to have it all set up for my '09 XRL. Anyone? Thanks.

My stock XRL cables bolted right up to an OEM CR450F FCR-MX. There is an outfit on EBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1993-2007-HONDA-XR650L-KEIHIN-FCR41-CARBURETOR-KIT-/280400583693?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item41492d5c0d) that sells an FCR (NOT FCR-MX) for $510, jetted and ready to go. I haven't seen any 41mm FCRs for $200 on eBay (I would have been on them like a bum on a bologna sammich). Be aware that many of the FCR's on eBay are not 41mm. Most of the OEM ones off of older 450s and most of the 250s (I dont think any 250s have 41mm carbs) are smaller than 41mm. I think the only CR450s that ran 41mms were 07 and 08. You have to narrow your search to the specific models that came with 41mm carbs. If you want it set-up... look at Sudco or the guy on eBay. Otherwise, buy a used OEM and the NOSS adapter and DIY.

So would a 40mm be so bad? Sure you don't want to go to small, but there seems to be lots of 39 and 40mm.

It may even be better... depending on your goal. A smaller bore typically will give you better throttle response at the expense of a bit at WOT. Not sure that the difference between a 40 and 41 would be noticeable. (I suspect there are those out there who think they have a 41, but actually have a 39 or 40)

39mm FCR-MX's shud work great(maybe even better than the 41mm?) and they are plentiful... ?

...they're commonly used on bikes make'n +50hp such as the 525/530 KTMs...

...also if u look at the stock CV it comes nowhere close to opening fully.?

Are these pumpers? will they bolt right up to a xr600? and stock cables fit ?

I doubt any of the OEM FCR carbs will be a bolt-on swap. They will most likely need the airbox adapter. As far as the cables go... not certain, but my XRL cables worked perfectly on my FRC-MX41. I would imagine that the FCRs that Honda used on the 2006 and earlier CRFs would have used the same set-up.

We want the MX version too I assume? With pump and choke?

The choke, TPS and hotstart... I haven't used any of them on mine.

The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is not wired to anything... nothing to wire it to on an XRL.

Not sure how much the choke will help when it's cold out. All I do to get mine cranked up is give the throttle a twist (activates the pump) and hit the button. It actually runs better when first cranked up with no choke than it did with the choke on with the OEM CV. The CV never idled well when cold with the choke (at the halfway setting on the choke lever) and would die if I turned it off.

Hot start... I rode it yesterday for a good bit and it always cranked right up. Don't know that I'll ever use it.

I think the non MX versions are pumpers as well.

I got an MX only because it was already set-up for an XRL and was within my budget (I wont say "cheap"... cuz it wasn't ?). I had planned to buy a non-MX FCR in July, but the FCR-MX popped up on EBay for a couple hundred less than I would have ended up paying for a new FCR... and the one on EBay had an adjustable leak jet and air screw already installed as well as a box full of jets and throttle cables & assembly (Now I have three sets of spare throttle cables!).

Take a quick troll through the Intake forum here on TT. A lot of good info there that should help guide your decision.

I found this the other day when I was trying to figure out what the 41 mm FCR-MX came on, and it my help some other people out.

CRF250X * California model

Carb size Casting # year

37mm FCR02A and FCR03A* - '04, '05, '06

37mm FCR02B and FCR03B* - '07

37mm FCR02C and FCR03C* - '08

CRF250R

Carb size Casting # year

37mm FCR01A.A - '04

37mm FCR01B.A - '05

40mm FCR01C.A - '06

40mm FCR01D.A - '07

40mm FCR01E.A - '08

So it looks like ThumpNRed is right.

I wish I could find a list like this for the 450 carbs.

Dose your Carb have an electrical wire attached to it??

the best ones are from 2007 and earlier models due to the revised AP linkage that give more squirt pressure.  The older ones are cheaper and will require a o-ring mod or similar mod to make more squirt pressure.
