XS650 Big Bore Questions?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This is my first time posting in this part of the forum, and I really don't know if this is the right spot but...

I just bought a 78 XS650 with a 750 big bore kit from XS Performance that needs the rings replaced because the guy went through and tried to freshen up the engine with a new set of rings but bent them instead. He told me he flattened them, but never got to repairing them. Now, I tore into the motor (which has been sitting around in his garage for a few years) and all is fine but the pistons are a 79.95 mm bore. The next oversize ring size is an 80 mm. Will I be able to buy the 80 mm rings and then check the end gap once they are installed?

Thanks

Cal

.10 mm = .0039" You're only talking about 5 hundredths of a mm. I think I've had to remove at least .005" off of rings already. I wouldn't be afraid to buy 'em and file to suit. The acceptable range of end gap has gotta be that difference a few times over.
