2008 rmz250- best mods

Recommended Posts

hey everyone, i picked up an 08 rmz250 about a month ago. its all stock except the 13/51 gearing, bike pulls forever it seems like and has decent bottom end. but im looking for some sugestions, i was thinking about a fmf mega bomb/4.1 system, deffanitly revalve, but motor and carb wise im torn, i thought about a complete toyko mods carb buttt are they really worth it??? and engine wise i was going to put in a high compresion piston with some head work. but i really want to keep the reliabilty of the bike up, while having a fast competive bike at the same time. Any suggestion is welcome, thanks.

The guy before me put in a Je high compression piston, theres 40 hard hours on it since and it's still goin strong, I would wait though until you hit around 40 to 50 hours, also he put in stage 2 hot cams which improve the top end of the bike a lot when compared to stock, not too strong but still very good.

Most everything your asking depends on what kind of racing/riding your doing??? MX or trails.... We do both. My son rides a 08 RMZ. There is no need to revalve the suspension unless your 200lb or more. You may just need to re-spring it.

We started with a stock bike racing trails at different mx tracks useing both the trails and the mx track. We tryed the Yosh pipe that a friend had. We bought a P/C slip on pipe. He cruched the header so I put a FMF power bomb on (works great). Now it has the Athena 290 kit. Super fast bike. We then did the cams.... My son rides the expert 250f class and 13 to 29 "A"

ill be racing in mostly motocross, and some supercross here and there. thanks for the imput guys, but has anyone tried a toyko mods carb? is it all flash and the name or does the carb really perform for the price its at? About the cams though, i was never a fan of them, i had them on my 07 kxf250 and took them off. there a bit to expensive for me to "just try out" again lol.

  • 1 year later...

how can you guys say your rmz's pull forever? I have an '09 rmz250 and it had a 13/49 gearing ratio and I hated it, it felt like it wouldnt rev out to save its life. It felt like it got about half way and the power just stopped and all it would to is get louder. It almost felt like the gearing was to tight so I switched to a 47t in the back, and I still dont know if it wil rev out enough

I would go with either the tosh or PC full system, r and d float bowl with adjustable leak jet, vertex high comp piston, mild port job, vortex ignition and a factory connection revalve with the fork pressure springs, oil lock collars and in the shock the high speed compression spring and the pre-load collar with the bearing. Also don't forget the hinson clutch basket.
