When Hitting gas bike dies!!!!

Recommended Posts

Well I have 2003 honda CRF450r. It had been running fine. Put it up for the weekend after adding a bit of oil. Brought it out to get ready for a ride the next day, put a new clutch lever on an when doing so I broke the perch. Went to local shot to get a new perch but the didn't carry one with a hot start so he said that I could disconect it until I could buy one. Went home put bike back together and noticed that it had a delay when hitting the gas. I didn't think nothing of it. Then I warmed bike up for a ride the next day and had the delay in gas then would hardly run after adjusting the idle a couple times bike wouldn't even run. Pulled carb apart checked all jets with no progress took to a friend who adjusted a tight valve. Still ran the same read to clean stator cover didn't help either.Idles fine but when hitting the gas it runs like shit... Please help!!!!

If it's hesitating when you twist the throttle, I would check and make sure your accelerator pump is squirting fuel everytime you twist your throttle. If it isn't, it will hesitate when you twist the throttle. The acclerator pump system doesn't affect the engine once your at a steady throttle or at idle.

Did you wash your bike by chance? I had a similar problem with my 08'. I was lazy one day after riding and used the car wash  and got water in my carb. The bike would start fine and idle with the choke on or off, but as soon as I tried to give it any gas it would die and pop a lot. It didn't matter if I tried to roll it on as slow as I could, or chop it open fast. It just tried to die. I kept running it and running it, and it went away after 10 minutes and ran great for the rest of the day. I used the car wash again, and what do you know it did the exact same thing. I think to myself at this time that I must have a problem so I checked the valve clearance, stator for metal shavings, main and pilot jet for obstructions. The only thing I found was a few dropletts of water in the carb bowl. I drained the gas through the drain in the carb bowl for 30 seconds. Kicked the bike and bam it was back to running good again. Haven't had a problem yet. And I haven't taken it back to the car wash since.:banghead:
