is truck bed coating the most effective thing to put on rust?

I wouldnt put anything over rust. Just hides the cancer. Clean up the rust fully then coat. It will last forever.

+1 you need to get rid of the rust, not just cover it up. 95% of the time when you cover up rust you are just making things worse.

How bad is the rust? Surface rust? Then a rust converter paint like POR-15 will work awesome, then you can paint/coat over top of it with a bed liner.

More than surface rust will require more then just paint however......

+1 on the POR-15. Just make sure you get all of the loose rust off of the metal and it never hurts to go over it with a red scotch brite & Comet (wet) before applying the Por-15. After armoring it with POR-15 you can paint it with whatever.

X2 on this I use por-15 on alot of car stuff I do and it is extremely durable and stops rust! But unless you specify it does not hold up to sunlight. The uv rating is nonexistent but I believe they have recently came up with an additive that will cure that problem. But if your gonna cover it with linex or something like it I wouldnt worry to much.

like others said, get rid of the rust first... just out of curiosity is this on your dirtbike?

yea a couple spots on my dirtbike. and other spots on my car. I usually just sand the rust down and spray it up with that truck bed liner. seems to be really tough and completely stops all the rust. the rust I am talking about here is not very deep and usually 2-10in. long

POR15 is the stuff for stopping rust. Rust bullet and eastwood's rust encapsulater are also similar products to POR15.

heres a picture of some random quad parts (bumper and swinger) (not mine) done with box liner, this was a proffesional spray job though, not spray paint (not sure if it makes a differance though) 008.jpgpost-3584-1259803099.jpg

that looks sick. I know this guy that did that to the grill of his matt black truck and it looked awsome
