back on a yz!! 2008 yz250

parted out my 2006 ktm 200xc and used the funds to pick up this beauty

the guy i bought it from had it set-up for off-road already and i must say he did a great job...the bike looks amazing. it already has a FWW and 18inch wheel. i only got one ride on it so far. i picked the bike up and then went to europe for a few weeks. can't wait to get back on it. the motor is amazing with the heavy FWW and once i get the suspension set-up this bike will be fantastic. pulls way harder off idle then my 200 with out the spastic 200 hit...much more linear power band.

i already have a slew of parts in the shop ready to be put on it. --tall seat, magura clutch (i got spoiled w/ my ktm) skid plate, rad cages, frame guards, fmf q stealth silencer ect.

i have one question--- what is up with the carb on this bike? it has some sort of sensor on it. not a normal screw top kleihn carb at all.

oh and one more question...what gearing do you guys run for the woods? the previous owner went up 2 teeth on the back for some reason. i was thinking about trying the stock gearing or maybe going to down a tooth or 2

any other info is much appreciated!

i'll miss my ktm but i'm glad to be back on a yz!

I would definitely go back to stock gearing. Before you do that count the front sprocket to make sure it is a 14. He might have messed with both to change the gearing.

Sensor on the Carb is a TPS sensor... (throttle position sensor).

I rock a 14 front and a 52 Rear. Works great for me! It is all user preference though, really depends on your riding style and the trails you are doing!

thanks for the replys fellas! what does the tps sensor do? help clean up the jetting and throttle response?

But...you need to fix the routing of the front brake hose. You will destroy it if you don't

the bike came with the cr routing and clamp. like i said the previous owner did his homework. ? the bike is tits. :worthy:

Nice looking bike!

Stock gearing is what I like on my YZ in the woods. I ride everything from tight singletrack to wide 4 wheeler trails and stock gearing works good. I've been told to go up a tooth on the front, and I've also seen guys that go the opposite direction with it. Just ride it and see what gearing you like the best

Personally... I would lose the FWW. I rode my bike (without one) back to back with a friend's yz that has a 13oz FWW and hated the effect that it had. the yz motor is good in the woods without it IMO. alot of people disagree with me on this issue though, so it's just something to think about trying to see how you like it. riding without the FWW makes the bike a little easier to stall, but it only takes a couple of rides to get used to so that it's not a problem anymore. I like the way the motor revs quick without the weight. I couldn't get the bike to jump on the pipe when I wanted it to with the FWW.

just my opinion. Everyone likes their bike different, so play around with the settings and see what works best for you.

There is a ton of info here about everybody's trick set-ups and what works and what doesn't work as well. Even though I bought an 11 oz. fww, I agree with the comment that you should try your bike with and without it. The engine is awesome without it. Mine is now in my rollaway.? Also, suggest you read up on the ignition and squish band stickies. Good free and low cost gains to be had there. I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
