TA/Stock Pipe Comparison

Recommended Posts

TheRapture and I met at Cycle Ranch (VP's track) this weekend to have fun. During our ride, he took his Thunder Alley off his bike and put it on min for a side by side comparison. The difference was amazing. It had an incredible amount more bottom, while mid and top seemed about the same. The great part is how smooth it was. I thought that with that much more bottom, it would be tough to ride. NOT!! I could shift much sooner, and I know my lap times were faster. Can't wait to get one of these. I had other pipes in mind, but now know which I want.

Sounded great too.

seriously though guys...do you think this thing actually needs more bottom...I am already not using 2nd, and usually use 3rd...4th and 5th is all I need most times, I think I would need more gears if it is that much difference...DINGA

I did not think so until I used it on my bike. It was like the entire power band you have now is in the first 5000 rpm, so you can shift sooner, and stay in a higher gear with less rpm. That is a much more controlled way to ride (for me anyway). I am sure it is not for everybody, but definately for me.

Well, I called Thunder Alley today and talked to Bob. He said he has silent cores available but can't guarantee they will pass a California sound test. They are able to get the sound down to 96db in the shop, but it hasn't been tested yet in a real world situation with a park ranger administering the test. Apparently he gave a silent core to a friend (who rides a 250F) that will be having it tested in the next 2 weeks at Hollister and Carnegie. His main concern right now is getting the sound level down and having a very minimal impact on power. Looks like he's on the right track. He also told me that if you buy a silent core and it doesn't pass the sound test, he will refund your money and pay for shipping. Now that's what I call customer service...

The slip-on system is $250.00 plus $45.oo for the spark arrestor. The spark arrestor set-up is the key to lower noise.

I rode with a guy who has a 250f. His bike was so quiet, I didn't even know he had a Thunder Alley pipe. When I saw that it was a Thunder Alley, it blew me away. I was really impressed with the quieter sound. After hearing the pipe, I am going to call Bob and get my spark arrestor.
