Hitting rev limiter to early? HELP?

early fall last year i had the crank assembly replaced on my 05 450x and rode her 5 times with no problems but on the very start of the 6th ride she was hitting "and im guessing the rev limiter" way to soon. I would say its hitting the limiter 50% sooner than it should in every gear

she still starts fairly easy and idles fine with good power at begining of each gear but after the 40% mark she starts to backfire a little and feels like it's hitting the rev limiter?

any Ideas?

The main jet sounds plugged or lean

or a clutch problem (slipping)

I am going to pull the carb apart and check it out and as far as the clutch goes i have lost a clutch in the past and doesn't have the same issues as before and it has great pull at the begining of each gear.

Ok well it wasn't the carb so from what ive read on some other threads im thinking its a bad cdi, so my question is will my friend's 2006 cfr450 R cdi work on my 05 crf450 X to test and see if this will correct my problem?

R ICM won't work on the X. Check the stator.

I would check in this order:

- kill switch

- coil ground under tank

- battery ground under seat

- lighting harness behind headlight (arcing at revs)

- THEN the CDI.
