CRF250R Top 10 Mod's

Recommended Posts

What is performance? Like make the bike faster or make your lap times faster. More power out of a corner orrrrrrrrr more top end speed? Performance where? Everything is a tradeoff. The bike is pretty good man. There is not alot of power on the table that Honda did not already deliver. The more you try and get out the less reliable it comes. You can have some crazy 42hp motor but plan of rebuilding it very often. If it were easy to do reliably it would have come that way.

for example:

More top end = less low end

more low end = less top end

more nimble = less stable

less nimble = more stable

Here is a general short list from cheap to expensive:

Jetting

Gearing

Tires

Exhaust some swaer buy it others swear it off, you'll give up some low/mid power most likley if you do it

20mm offset clamps

Riding lessons

08 head and cam or 270cc big bore kit if that is more your style

Realize outside a big bore kit no mod is going to be a "wholy crap" mod. Most give subttle effects and even then only in one part or the powerband or another.

Lots of guys on bone stock 250F bikes lap me and I know my bike is faster. 90% rider 10% bike.

Thank you for that. "ebeck" I was talking about out of the turn power, I wasn't being specific though. I already put a two teeth bigger rear sproket but I still don't feel like I am pulling out of the corners as fast as I could. Should I just have my bike looked at? It feels like it is going to bog down at times. Or could it just be the carb because I know that my bike has a 40mm carb instead of 37mm like the other 250F bikes. I was going to get it looked at but other than that, what can I do to get better acceleration?

send your carb to toyko mods, best $200 you can spend to get the most out of you bike. I been jetting carbs for years and i couln't do what the do the gain is incredable, perfect power bottom to top. no more f_ _ with jets it is my first mod i do for now on.

the bog is common on the 250, due to the stock acc pump, upgrade to the boyesen acc pump, night and day difference in out of corner bog and landing jumps and having that throttle delay from twist to power,

Do NOT buy the Boyesen QS2. I purchased it for the ridiculous price of $100 and it did NOTHING, same situation with many others too.

i put a boyeson quick shot on my bike, properly jetted and it made my hot starts harder.. much better sending it to tokyo mods or looking into the R&D Bowl..

Best mods? Suspension by far and Ride time.. honestly.. looking elsewhere a good head setup and cam/ properly jetted and exhaust will greatly help your bike..

On a cheaper note Tires- some save weight and stick better, controls- proper bar height, different clamps, fork height will give you better control..

Even smaller things such as the Stomp Grip pads for holding on the bike, wider foot pegs will make a difference..

I agree. Turns the "little" bike into a growling cute little tiger. If someone dropped (10) 07s off for me, I'd send TM (10) carbs in the same box.

if the bikes comes out of the crate and runs fine..why mess with jetting?

im just switchin tires, tossin on some renthal grips and some unbreakable levers...
