How often do these break?

Just washed my bike then tried to start it to dry it out. Heard a clang as something metal hit the ground then looked down to find the kick-starter on the ground. Is this a normal thing??

it's just an old bike which has been around for a long time and who really knows how long the kick starter was on there for? I've had 4 different bikes and none of them ever broke, but they were also newer bikes. Get a new one and see it it happens again.

91 probably beat and kicked around not surprising on that old of a bike my 02 CRF broke from a hard crash landing!!!

Your lucky you didn't get hurt. I can imagine that it would be pretty easy to rip your knee up on the peg when it suddenly snapped off.

I broke one on my '87 CR500 but at the other end. I bought a 2001 CR500 a couple of years ago and the kickstarter on it probably wasn't far from doing the same thing. The part that broke on yours was so wore out, the kickstarter would hit the rear brake arm every time it was kicked over and it was next to impossible to get a full stroke. They aren't that expensive.
