Mid 80's TX510?

Recommended Posts

Does aybody have any information on the mid 80's TX510. From what i've gathered it was a 4-stroke cylinder with some modifications that was adapted to a two-stroke bottom end. Does anybody know of how this thing was to ride? has anyone ridden one?

What kind of specs does anybody have? Did it have drum or disc brakes? Linkage suspension or monoshock? how heavy was the bike? did it ride like a tank or was it rather nimble for it's size? regarding size, was it a huge bike?

Any info you have, thank you.

Thanks.

All 4 stroke Huskys were built on a 2 stroke style bottom end up it maybe 2000 or so,no oil pump, they relyed on reed valves and crank presure, they were head and shoulders better than any other 4 bangers at the time, although big distance high speed running was not recommended, they will do it but there not like an XR Honda, there were a full on race bike,500ks between oil changes, left leg kick,I loved my 92 Te 350

Hi ,

the TX was the cross - country model,

we didn't get this model in the uk - not a lot of desert round here..!!

If memory serves it should be essentially a MX motor but with the wide ratio 6 speed tranny - great for fast , open going a handfull in the woods.

all of the Left kick huskies are long and tall bikes - very stable at speed - but poor turning -circle.

Over the years there were some major improvements to the engine " mid 80's " isn't enough info to tell you fact's I'm afraid.

look at Husky clubs history , or try a web search for Husaberg history.

guess my user name is the tip off. i've got 3 510's (83-84 twin shockers & 85 single shocker), the twin shockers came with itc ohlins & the single shock was also ohlin. i think 85/6 was last year of air cooling & 1st year of front disk brake/single shock rear. august issue of dirt bike named the 510 as one of the 10 most sigificant bikes! the tc were 4 speed motocrossers, the tx & te were 6 speeds. the one thing everyone agrees is that the motor rips, it's basically a speedway motor with a gearbox. the aircooled models suffered from over heating and cooked sem ignitions however we now have a fix. a friend built one into a road racer that he said was untouchable in it's class.it can be seen at www.eurospares.com under craig hanson's bikes. the local husky dealer has an 86/87? tc that's immaculate and for sale if anyone's interested. the tx was features in the aussie mag. vmx issue #19. i've got more info. if you'd like, please e-mail. anyone with any other info.(mag. or tech.) please let me know. the twin shockers are ahrma legal that i'm building for the ultma 4stroke class and are a highly sought after collectable. the're also legal in ama enduro vintage class. as far as turning, no they're not a modern mx weapon, but they're were not designed to be, i'm working on that one for my pvmx bike. however, the picture of larry roeseler on one in the august issue of dirt bike says it all.?

The 1984 Husqvarna 510 TE was a bold and world class step for Husqvarna motorcycles. The 510 was introduced mid year 83 and the 84's were a similiar model. Twin shock on the Husky "O" series frame, these 4 strokes were the lightest and most competitive 4 strokes in the world and in an era that was dominated by 2 strokes. The engine was kept light with a reed activated oiling system. The "TE" model shown was the the enduro with full lighting, horn, speedo, but don't be fooled , this is a full out competittion model. Twin exhaust was very impressive, as was the plastic tank and new style graphics.

The 84 510 TE has a 6 speed tramnsmission. The camshaft rides in ball bearings, and the big end has silver plated cage. The carurettor, DellOrto 36mm has an accelerator pump for smooth response. The electrical system (SEM) on this model puts out 140watts of power. The front brake is a double leading shoe. The engine has an automatic as well as a manual decompression release.

The rear suspension was Husqvarna ITC. The small horn was bolted to the front tank mount and is visable in the photo. The speedometer cable runs up the right fork leg and has a wire bracket guide also visable in photo.

USA ISDE riders Wally Wilson, Terry Cunningham, Scot Harden, Mark Hyde, Ed Lojak, Mike Melton, and Dick Burleson were just some of the heros that were Husqvarna team riders in this era.

Hi , thanks for the photo link ,

that has raised one long-standing question for me..

back in the '80s - well before the WEB...

I was under the impression that the US were essentially a model year behind Europe for Huskys ..?? correct me if that's untrue..:worthy:

To me that photo is a '83 model 100% , as the tank on it is essentially a "painted white chrome tank - '82 pattern" this was the '83 look after the electrolux buy-out ( white goods)

the '84 models were launched ready for the 1983 ISDE here in Wales , where they were running the all-new WR400. AS far as I'm aware only available with the plastic -"hump " tank.?

any clarification would be VERY welcome , thanks, Charlie:ride:

i owned and rode a 86 510TX,, after alot of workable mods she really was a cool factor bike,,, the forks were (h@#L) for me but the rear was great,,,the motor when all was good ex. new cam chain, valves, ignition,,,,and i put a mikuni 38 flat slide on it,,, it started first kick every time,,,and i ran it with race fuel only and with full synth oil,,,,she ran great,. strange machine but much fun and very fast.

Yes, here in the states all 84's models had white plastic tanks with the exception of the 84 TE510s. If I remember the early white plastic tanks did not fit the twin shock 4T models.

Husqvarna switched to white in 1983 here in the states as well but the fuel tanks that year were white painted aluminum tanks as used on the 1984 TE510

Husqvarna had a promotion on 1983 leftover WR250s where if you bought one you'd get the white plastic tanks.

Hey HuskyRips, why was Scott Harden in bold in your post ???

Scott Harden's a really good guy and I highlighted his name by accident, but he's also one of the people that made Husqvarna successful in the 1980s and also helped make KTM the company they were up until Rod Bush passed away.
