How old is too old to ride dirt bikes

Recommended Posts

I'm 56, I have been riding hs, mx, trails since I was

teenager.

Lately I have had people tell me they think that someone my age should not ride dirt bikes because of the chance of injuries or whatever.

I think a person should do what they like to do at any age using common sense. Sure I am not going to go for the jump monster jump but sometimes it's suprising what people will jump who can't get around a cross country course worth a darn, comments ?

You should and CAN do whatever you enjoy doing. I'm 40 and plan to ride until I'm physically impaired to where I will cause harm to those around me. My mind may be gone at that late age and I may need coaxing by my son, but that day will come!!

A lot of people I tell that I ride say "why haven't you grown up yet?". Most of these people would "die" to ride a dirt bike and are envious of our pasttime and skills.

There is a 75 year old man that rides at tone of the local tracks - he's not too fast, doesn't jump, but he ENJOYS himself!!!

Enjoy your riding and don't let others tell you how to spend your freetime! ?

Good Luck!!

There is no such thing as being too old to ride. There is a local guy here in his sixtys that rides better than alot of the young guys. He does mostly trails but every now and than he will come out to do a little mx nothing crazy but his is pretty fast. Most of all he teaches alot of the kids how to be faster and SAFER.

I guess it's all up to the rider when he wants to retire.

Don't forget that local races run a +50 class, If there wasn't enough +50 guys they wouldn't have that class.

There was an article in the monthly AMA magazine a couple of months back about a guy who raced hillclimbs into his late 80's. He was now near 100 if I remember correctly. There's no such thing as "too old" (or "too young" either; my three year old starts riding his PW50 in a couple of months).

56 isn't old you're just getting started. Take a look at this place, you can't even start racing until your 40.

My friend is 61 and kicks my butt. I have 1 more year until I move to the 50 class and I can't wait to be the "kid" again. I admire those 70 yr old racers they may take a few min to push their bike to the line but when that gate drops their 16 again.

I am with Florida

I saw Gary Anderson ride he is 62 #ib62 and is the curent vet champ.

I thnk the question is based on you.

I am 45 and plan on riding until I am to old to kick a beast, then its electric start.

I took 16 years off mainly becouse I could not afford bikes and was raising a family. 3 back surguries did not help either.

But bikes are my first love, I have always ridden and will never stop again..

As long as you have the desire for anything, dirt bikes, Ironman Triathlon, car racing, whatever DO IT. When you stop doing something you enjoy, based upon the opinion of others you really are too old then. IMO.

People have been telling me I need to grow up for 20 years, I just laugh and go on doing what I enjoy. Speed is really irrelevant IMO, as long as you enjoy riding, don't stop.

Good luck,

Wayne

How old is too old? Once you're dead I guess. Then I plan to ride in heaven. I'm 40 and I feel like I can still outride a lot of the "kids". Condtioning is a bit more of a factor now, not to mention some past injuries, but I'm having as much fun as ever!

Some reasons which may indicate you are too old to ride :

- You no longer have control of your colon

- You no longer have control of your bladder

- You have massive hemorroids

- You have elephant tiatus of the testicles

- You are soo fast you are bored with it.

- Tired of smoking all the kiddies

- You can't see the road anymore

- When riding no longer does it and you need viagra to sport wood

- When you are too lazy to push a button to start your bike.
