How come Jeff Emig did't call it LaRocco’s Leap?

Recommended Posts

I just watched a replay of the Motocross show and Jason Weigandt was calling it LaRoccos leap. I am suprised someone on hear hasnt got the inside scoop on this one yet. I looked at some other MX boards and its all over those too. But no one knows why? Weird and dissappointing. I hate change! Or atleast change without explaination.

I have a plausible guess....?

Maybe the TV people are thinking "new" fans would have no idea who LaRocco is and so it would create confusion about the name. Lots of tracks have these names i.e. Bradshaw Blvd., Henry Hill (haha Goodfella's). I don't remember them mentioning Henry Hill, but kept saying the skijump? I think Emig called it Bradshaw Blvd. once and said "also referred to as"......before he did.

I'm just making a guess because it really doesn't make any sense to me either.?

i just read this on Racer X

David Pingree just sent this over:

I just saw the Red Bud broadcast, and after getting a few emails from people troubled by the same thing, I could not find out why the Speed TV announcers refused to call Larocco’s Leap by its proper name. They kept saying it was the “Parking Lot Jump.” That jump was named after one of the sport’s greatest local heroes that jumped it for the first time, and it will always be Larocco’s Leap to me and to the thousands of fans who show up every year at Red Bud….

Well, I called Jeff Emig to find out why he was calling it by anything other than LaRocco’s Leap, and he said, “Oh man, absolute, complete brain fade on my part. Wow, I completely forgot.… Maybe it’s because I’m still traumatized by all the times LaRocco jumped over my head on that thing!” Fro added that he takes full responsibility for the oversight, which occurred while they were doing the post-race voiceovers in an editing bay.

I know he smoked alot of pot in his time, but damn. I don't buy that one bit. I say it was a way of dissing Larocco. But, I could be wrong......?

Its clearly a boring time at the races these days if there's so much focus on what an announcer calls one of the jumps on the track.

Who know Larocco had so many fans.

Some think that history is worth saving and I agree. The racers play a huge part in this sport and to actually have a part of a track named after you is awesome. Calling it Larocco's Leap is a tribute to a great MX racer and should be held in high regard. ?

I don't know about ya'll, but I was on the edge of my seat watching the MX2 second moto. I could not believe what happened to Dungey on the last lap. That was like a movie thriller ending badly. He was killing Larocco's leap and then.......
