08 crf 450R air filter

Recommended Posts

The '03 to '08 filters are the same. However, stick with stock and use the Twin Air only as a back-up. They tend to develop small tears where they meet the cage.

Not true at all. Twin Air filters are the best. Use them on all my race bikes, over a couple decades and less wear on them than anything OEM.

Most of the factory bikes run TA by choice.

I dont think the filter has changed since 02, the onlything that did change was the cage. They moved the backfire screen around a little. I second the quality of Twin Air, great stuff. If you clean your filters as much as you should (every ride) then anything is gonna tare after time, but I'v seen twin air filters go for ever.

I use the Twin Air with the fire retardant inner liner, clean it and re-oil it after every ride with the NoToil cleaner and oil. No problems out of the filter. I'm sure that not using a really harsh cleaner has to help to preserve the filter. And the thing sure does breathe better without the double layer backfire screen in the cage. Anyone that tells you that pulling that screen won't make it breathe easier is full of crap.

I used twin air filters for years on my CR500R and never had a single issue.

I've already thrown away 2 twin a's this year for my 07 450r. The first one got a tear in the mating surface & the second had glue separation. I use No-toil also and love it. I think the stock filter fits the best and will continue to keep it in rotation. I'm trying my first no-toil dual stage filter tomorrow. We'll see how it lasts.

Just FYI, i tried a ready pre-oiled for the first & last time last weekend. Might be good to keep in emergency. But i did'nt like it at all.

A buddy gave me a couple spare filters from his 02, and I can't make them fit very well on my 04 or 06. They are just different enough that I wouldn't feel confident in using them.

Has anyone else noticed that the air filter cage on the 08 CRF450R doesn't come into contact with the sealing ring of the air box? I noticed it when the bike was new and took the filter off the cage to check the fit. It's about a 1/8 to 1/4 gap that I'm sure the foam will prevent dirt from entering but it just didn't seem right. I bought another stock air filter cage and it fits the same. I am going to try the twin air kit with the aluminum cage to see if it fits better.
