No Yamaha YZ150F???

Recommended Posts

Recently, one Yamaha dealership employee told me that there will "never" be a YZ150F, and then another dealership's owner in a neighboring city said that he had been expecting a 150 thumper for the 2008 model year.

The one employee said... "There isn't a class to race a 150 4-stroke in, so Yamaha decided not to develop and produce a bike of this displacement."

The second guy said..."Yamaha will have a 150 4-stroke MX bike out in the not too distant future, because they are losing too many sales dollars to Honda in this particular segment."

Is there anyone on here that has close ties with someone at Yamaha Motor Co. who can clarify the company's position on this 150 4t MX bike issue?

I have heard from DR that there is a YZ150F coming out, but they never said when. I know this isnt what you asked for but I thought I'd share what I knew. not much huh? One company I do look to see a 150 thumper from is KTM, it would be so sweet.

A dealer is really not going to know. They just sell the bikes. There might be a yz150f because the 150 4t's i beilive are raced with the 85's.

Yes pretty much everything has been discussed over and over again. but if we stop posting new topics the forums would die. This is what TT is here for, when someone has a question they come here and ask it and are looking for he answers and not replies that say it has been already asked :D

As far as YZ150F i thought they will come out in 08 but it does not look like it  ...maybe next year...

You're right, let's talk about the same things over and over again - WHEE!

Hey, back when I had a 2 stroke, black oily stuff would somtimes come out the end of the silencer. How could I have fixed that? Change the powerband, maybe?

if everything was a BRAND new topic, there would be barely any posts. yes, some questions are asked more then once, no biggie

Thanks for your response and all of the other positive and interesting responses! It appears as though most of you guys still think that Yamaha will ultimately end up producing a 150 4t MX bike in the not too distant future. That's good news for lots of Yamaha fans out there.

Honda made the bike thinking they would race it in the mini classes. Didn't happen. The AMA wanted to keep the mini classes 2-stroke so that entry level racing was more affordable, etc. As a result, they're only legal in 3 classes I believe.

When that happened I read in Racer-X that dealerships were having a hard time selling the 150R's. It could be that other manufacturers are waiting for the AMA to change their rules and totally eliminate 2-strokes. Had the AMA allowed Honda's 150R, I would guess that we would have seen other 150's this year.

Given the other AMA class structure changes, it doesn't look like that is going to happen anytime soon.

Just my $0.02.

I think it wont be long until yamaha has a 150f. They are already legal in supermini, which is a highly competitive class.

I woulnt believe what the sales men have to say most of the time. They arent going to say that they think yamaha will come out with a 150f next year. If they said that to every person the sales of the YZ85's would drop this year due to people waiting for the 150.

The 150 is a great bike, i defnitly dont think its a fair bike to race in the 85 class, but in supermini i think its pretty fair.
