Automatic Clutch???

Recommended Posts

How tuff could it be to put the XR70 clutch in an 80. Me thinks not very if you have access to a basic machine shop.

The shift shaft just has to go all the way to the other side and push on the disconnect for the clutch. Hell for that matter what about external cables (on the shifter) to the regular clutch arm, via a cam multiplier/fulcrum point.

Or use the xr 70 clutch but make the disconnector all external with cables.

Anything will fit anything else with a little modification.:worthy:

Yea wouldn't it be cool when someone asked "where did you get that?".

Oh I made it.:bonk:?

Necessity is the mother of invention.:ride:

If you saw the 70 clutch it uses a 3 ball roller plate that rotates (via lever) when you move the shift rod. All this could be mounted right on the cover of the 80. And then extend the shaft holding the 3 ball plate outside the clutch cover and operate it with cables from the shifter.

But what if you didn't worry about the shifting gears part and just installed the clutch for just the low rpm stall?

I have never studied one close enough to know if it's just about RPM when it engages or if something else is at play.

But I do have a spare 70 clutch that I can measure and mic if anyone needs me too.

I'm looking for a bike that will fit a 13 year old. He does not have any motorcycle experience (ie clutch), and the 110, 90, and 70 are a little small for him. I don't want to buy something that he will outgrow in a few months. Thanks for all of the input guys.

It will only take one afternoon to teach him how to use a clutch, which is less time it will take you to retro fit a xr70 auto-clutch. A xr100 is a great bike to learn, then after a year or so he can move up to 150r or 250f. If you get a used xr100, they don't lose too much value, unless you mod it out.

I agree with Socal it will only take one or two outings to get it down pat. I know this cause my son just stepped up from a 70 to an 80.

One day of reving and dumping one day of "look dad I can slip it real good".?:ride::bonk:
