Alpinestar boots

Recommended Posts

Hi

Im looking at getting a pair of alpinestar boots. Whats the difference between the tech 6 , tech 7 and tech 8 boots? I plan to ride mainly MX. I think I read somehere that the tech 7 is for enduro???? The tech 7 also looks like the tech 10s where tech 6 ,8 look like the normal mx boots. Which pair do you reccomend for mx ( between tech 6 & 7 )

I also have a Acerbis full chest protector ( like the alpinestar one with the built in elbow guards kidney belt and chestguard with the zip ) Do you know if the Leat brace will fit or can it only fit on a standard roostguard?

What do you think of the Nofear Prime Helmet ( Safety wise ) ?

Thanks guys.:worthy: :worthy:

Tech 6 & Tech 8 are similar, the Tech 8 has an inner boot that you wear. I just retired a 4year old pair of Tech 8's. Great boot. I did however switch over to Gaerne SG10 Carbon Pro's, I like the pivoting ankle that Alpinestar does not offer:thumbsup:

The tech 7 just came out to replace the tech 6. They are phasing out the tech 6. Protection wise the tech 6 and the tech 7 are the same, so if you want to save a little money you can find tech 6's on clearance already. I myself where tech 8s b/c the protection level is a little better and I think they are more comfortable. All three boots are great boots.

Doesn't the Tech -10 have the pivoting ankle? And yes I realise the question doesn't ask about the tech 10.

I love my Tech 8's. The Gaerne sg-10 is also a good boot, and it is very light, but it does not have an inner booty. If the price of an sg-10 or tech 8 is too highI would go with a tech 6 if you can find it cheap.

Safety wise the No Fear helmet will do it´s intended job.

Just make sure you replace it after a hard hit.

There have been tons and tons of threads concerning helmet´s safety.

Some say that Snell sucks others that Dot doesnt have that much quality control. Others say that European standards are better.

But yet it was shown that while some helmets are certified by some standard they wont pass the others and viceversa.

My 02 cents on the matter is that any helmet above the $150 mark will provide enough protection and other extras like light weight and ventilation.

I usually look for sales on last years helmets and you may get a cooler looking, better ventilated and lighter helmet for not the same ammount of money. On Dec i got an 05 Trooper for less than $180

I did not see a pivot in the ankle area of the Tech 10. I did not care for the price or the sole myself. Alpinestar does make a GREAT boot though, I wore them for 4 years. I just liked the form/function and pricing of the SG10. Here is the Tech 10

A riding buddy of mine has the SG10's and hates them because the pivot area catches on his pegs, frame guards etc. Have you had that issue with them?

I haven't noticed that. What I did notice at first was it is easier to use the rear brake (and shift as well) causing me to stall my bike.

For support on the inside, the foam forms to your ankle, works and feels pretty nice.

All in all, both boot manufacturers have great product. ?

The Tech 6 are quite a few years old in terms of design and are being phased out entirely. You can find good prices on close-outs for those, but keep in mind those boots have likely been sitting in its box for a number of years at this point. The 7 is the replacement. It's equally protective, yet lighter weight and has a more compact design, plus less stuff to catch on.

Really- if you're considering neck braces and all that- you need to look at the higher end Tech 10 boot. Night and day difference over anything else in the line.

I had tech 6;s when i first started and i loved them because they offer enough protection for what i was doing but as i imporved my skills they broke in alot withen 6 months and i ended up doing a slight tear in my acheelis tendon . the doc i have who also likes motocross said tech 8 offers great support because of the innerbooter and its stiffer. buy sumthing that is going to be sufficent to your skill. i have not used the leat neck brace but i own a thor sentenial and peaople say it fits good in one

+1.. with all the other gear, you should at least have one of the top of the line models of hinged boots... sg-10, crossfires, oxtar tcx pros, etc. Boots are probably the second most important piece of gear, & if you've got the money for all the other gear, spend some first on a good pair of modern boots.
