Chain length?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Ive re-geared my bike a lil taller with a 138 rear sprocket, stock front.

Im using an EK 520 SRXL X ring chain.

I just need to know what chain length I should get the chain cut to.

The chain that was on the bike is so toasted, that with the new sprocket size, I cant get enough tension on it to even ride it the short distance to my dealer.

I would assume that I need to only go down a link or 2 under stock?

How many links is the stock chain meant to have?

Cheers

This might be a stupid question, but what is a 138 rear sprocket? What does the number stand for? (I've only heard of sprockets named after the # of teeth).

Yeah I was curious on that too. I re-gear my sprockets I have a 14t and 47t i bought a 110pin chain and cut it down to 109 seems to work good.

The standard cut is 108 pin so if you are going down seven teeth in the rear... I would think you could cut two or three pins out... but i would put your new sprockets on and size the chain on it.... u can always put links back if u cut too many. I would think around 105 or 106 pin would be a good place to start.

If thats the case, then Im in a lot of trouble! lol

A 7 tooth difference, I doubt it would pull that.

Ive had about 135kph out of it, think it would have maxed at 140 with the gearing it had on it.

What are you guys getting out of yours as a comparison?
