kdx200

Recommended Posts

A bike that runs and is decent shape is worth 1000 bucks. So yeah it is a good deal unless it major issues.

I am guessing that a stock KDX 200 puts out maybe 30 hp if the motor is fresh.

Put on a pipe, delta force 3 reed valve and RB carb mod and you could see 36 hp? I dont know for sure I dont have dyno at my disposable.

Not trying to dis the KDX, I think they are great bikes, but there is no way it makes 37 horsepower. A stock KTM200 makes 36 and I have ridden both the KDX and the KTM, and the KDX is way, way less powerful.

HP at the crankshaft might be 37, but at the rear wheel it is around 27. I thoguth Dirt Rider said the KTM was 39. It was the issue with the little KDX article in the KTM and (?? Gas Gas 200) article.

A '94 should be around 26 or 27 HP. Don't make me break out the 1989 Dirt Rider test issue with the same engine and dyno results. I'll do it! CAREFUL!! :-)

do you mean the ktm puts out 39 at the crank? because both are 200 2 strokes, theres no way that one could be 10-12 horsepower more, unless kawi was trying to make their bike junk...like i said, i have never ridden the 200 KTM, but i don't think that it puts out 12 more HP.

The KTM's have a lot more power, I can make the comparison, check the garage. But for those just strictly going from a ridden it standpoint, not dynoed you have to relize the ktm weighs a lot less also. I have heard a stock KTM mxc makes like 45-48 I think it was and a stock KDX makes 38. There's no way it was 27hp. I have ridden a dynoed crf230 that put out 27hp and it had nothing on my stock KDX.

testthus max hp at what rpm in what conditions so the answer is it could very well test any were from 27 to 40 hp depending on condition of said motor stock KDX is jetted fat and not the same as a KTM stock, take a good look at a box stock euro bike they have had a lot more after market performance parts installed. the japs are more involved with market competition and quality control. The euros are a motor cycle enthusiast look how many people in the past have shown up for out door events.

If Ted turner furnaced Jeff Fredette to build his own motorcycle how much would it look like a fully modded KDX the man has a Passion for the bike. how fast do you think he could have had a pumpkin.

If ported and piped baseline is 31.3, then I don't think 27 stock would be too unrealistic.

Here are a few dyno figures from various Dirt Rider magazines:

1985 KDX200 - HP 22.5, torque 16.2

1989 KDX200 - HP 28.3, torque 18.7

From the August 2005 issue of Dirt Rider:

"Also, the KDX engine puts out around 27 horsepower with a pipe on it, and that is close to 9 ponies shy of the stock KTM's output."

Of course, it is not the exact same dyno on the same day, etc., etc., but it should give a good idea.

It's all in the tuning, KDX's are pretty detuned stock.

yeah, i beleive it...and about those tests, those are '85 and '89 bikes...that was like 20 years ago...im sure that something in the KDX's has become more powerful since 1985...and im not saying that this place is correct( http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/kawasaki/kawasaki_kdx200%2098.htm ), but everyone says something else about the hp of the kdx...
