RM250 rear shox

Did a search for "RM rear shock" and didn't get much accurate results. Will newer age RM rear shocks fit the DRZ with no mods? Read that the older ones have shaft fitment issues but not a big deal.

I have one on mine. an 02 RM125 shock on an 02 DRZE

I have mounted 98RM, 04crf250, cr250, crf450, showa, and 04 ohlins RM250 shocks to my bike. They all fit well. The only kicker is the compression screw ends up behind the side panel on some shocks... that's cool, because once I get it dialed in, it's better off protected anyway. The main diff in the shocks is the length...the DRZ shock is the shortest of the bunch. The longer MX shocks, let's you set up more race sag for added traction, but still end up with more rear travel. I really liked the crf250 shock, and it took an awesome deal on a Factory rider Ohlins to beat it out. The main thing to watch out for is the bottom mounting bracket. Most shocks are very close and will work, but the Yamaha has a diff bottom setup. The Ohlins, is about 2-3 lbs lighter, and uses the smaller diameter spring (like a Kayaba) which gives you alot more clearance in the subframe, exh. pipe area...here are some pics of my bike with the diff shocks installed... You don't still have a connection for the Ohlins do you???? what size Ohlins are you running? One more ? how is it(the bike) affected in the whoops and high speed chop?

My ohlins is for an 04 RM250, Yep I can help you with the ohlins connection maybe... can't promise you anything but I'll ask... I thought the bike was absolutely glued in just about anything I ride, especially the whoops, the extra sag allows the tire to track without any suspension pressure...and I enjoyed the extra travel, and still have almost double race sag...

Yes the spring lenghts are different.

Yes you will need to switch out springs if you buy a shock with one installed, IF it is the wrong rate for you/your bike combo. The spring rate is determined by the rider/bike not the shock. AS long as you stay with a showa (Brand that comes stock on a DRZ and most year RM's), your DRZ spring will work fine. If you go Ohlins, or Some years of RM used Kayaba, then the spring is smaller in Dia. than a Showa... Andrew

Ah got it! In that case investing in a good aftermarket spring would be better than getting a whole RM shock with the stock DRZ spring.
