Front fork brace for 78 Yamaha SR500

Recommended Posts

I have a 1978 Yamaha SR 500 and am building a street flattracker. Need to find or make an old style fork brace ,that takes the place of the front fender frame to keep the forks from tweeking. Where, if the are still available can I get one?

I am in the same position, except that I still have an old one from the SR I road raced 25 years ago.

I know that Kedo in Germany has some in their catalogue (it is in German, but they have operators who speak English). They have a web site but I don't know it off hand.

Also, I think that fork braces for RD400s (and probably 350s) also will fit. You might try one of the companies that specialize in RD stuff.

They definately make a big difference! If you have been riding modern sport bikes recently, you forget just how flexible those old 35mm forks actually were!

I am actually considering putting something slightly more modern on mine. I was thinking about legs from an early 80s Seca 650. They are 36mm and look like they have a more robust clamp to the axle, plus I have a set of 36mm triple trees from an XT that would bolt right up, but I don't know if it is enough of a difference to be worth the bother -- vs going with something even more modern.

I made one (actually bolted right on) for my RZ350 and the fork brace came off a 1970's yamaha DT360 (???) and uses the stock front fender and looks sano. See a lot of DT's them in the salvage yards. It is poor man's fork brace because the real deal is pricey.
