how to uncork a 250x?

Recommended Posts

I am sure this has been asked before and explained before but can some one help point me to the best way to uncork my wife’s CRF250x? And is there a way to get rid of the annoying dead spot the bike has? It seems like when you give it gas it hesitates and then kicks in.

My CA '04 250X has never had a terrible bog when at operating temp, even with stock jetting. The bike has the stock pipe with the diffuser in, but I cut the end off of it. I took the rubber cover off the airbox (snorkle) and cut the airbox open in that area. I went up to a 140 main, 42 pilot, and raised the needle a couple of positions. The bike runs great, at some of the elevations I ride it even seems a tad rich up top.

Are guys just snapping the throttle wide open from a low idle? There's a big difference between quickly opening the throttle and clumsily snapping it open. I get forward thrust equal to what I do with my right hand, the bike never stumbles unless I have been sitting and it's cooled off. Now, if the bike is cold it stumbles all over itself, but I normally let it run for a few minutes while I gear up.

I going to put a FMF Q pipe on and see how that does.

I had that low end bog at first, here is my cure:

Open up the top of the air box

removed backfire screen

JD kit; 158 main, red needle 5th clip position

42 slow jet

Zip ty screw out 2.25 turns

Result: no more bog, crisp response all the way up

I have read that opening up the stock exhaust doesn't make any more hp, just makes it louder.

I have about the same setup as above, but with a 160 main, and screw is probably 3 turns out. I've been running U4 and the bike is really happy. No bog, even when whacking the throttle open, but I usually don't do that anyway.

When stock, the bike did have a huge bog off idle, even when hot. You really had to be smooth with the throttle to avoid it. It is (was :naughty: ) a CA model.

I took out the baffle in the pipe and found it to be too loud. My ears would ring at the end of a day of riding. I installed a FMF Q and now it's just right. 70 miles on Saturday and my ears are in good shape. This was with a 15 minute 60mph blast down a highway as well :naughty::D:D

I have no bog so far (knock on wood) and the bike has 90 miles on it. It does seem to stumble when cold though and takes a few minutes to warm up. I will consider opening up the airbox and rejetting when I start using all the power (not there yet). It also is difficult to find neutral on and I have been riding motorcycles for years. It may be loosening up as I am finding it a little easier now.

on the Left side behind the air filter(remove the white number plate) there are some wires. there is one set of wires where there are 6 places but only 5 wires. snake out the pink wire and put it in the spot where the plugged hole is and put the plug in the pink wires spot. Makes a huge difference. I hope that made sence.
