Alpinestars Tech 7 Boot choice!

Recommended Posts

Hey Lucky Muckers!

I have a question & it's probably a dumb question but...

I wanted to know if any of you riders out there would ride Motocross in the AlpineStars Tech 7 Enduro boot?

I like the look of the Enduro sole as it's chunky & has more grip to help you pick your bike up if you fall off in slop or on a hill.

And if you want to do trail riding & hit the mx tracks you have the best of both worlds.

But I'm guessing there's a reason the mx boot doesn't have too much grip?

The reason is that you or not picking it up on an off camber rocky hill . Mx you want a smooth sole so you can move you foot around the pegs easier w/o the groves getting caught up like you might on a adv sole .
I trail ride 95 % of the time and I ride with tech 3 mx  soles because they were inexpensive, but there have been times I tried to bulldog my bike up a hill and couldn’t find the traction I needed.

whatever you think would work best for you go with that .

Yeah there's been a few times riding in the sloppy mud on the mx tracks  where I've stacked & could of done with some extra grip standing up let alone picking up my bike lol.

I had a pair of tech 10's that lasted 20 years. Great value for money!

But if I get the Enduro boots I'll be set for both types of riding.

Was just worried the extra grippy soles could caused more knee, leg, ankle damage potentially when foot down/sliding.

That replacable insert is intriguing to me.

Yes they seem a very good idea.

But I think it's hard to find someone to actually to replace the soles.

The rest of the boot will be ruined before you need to replace those. Ask me how I know

True. And who rides with the arches of their feet on the pegs anyway? Ouch!

I find the traditional Mx boot smooth sole a conundrum. Everyone says it's to allow easier foot movement.  In the mean time many add razor sharp pegs with 1/2 spikes for better grip.

A medium sized tread sure seems reasonable.

I wear the tech 7 enduro for comfort following a foot injury. Only problem I’ve had is the softer souls gets stuck on the sharp foot pegs on my xc350. You learn to adjust to it. I’ve found the boot wears out before the soul does. The ap7 is very comfortable all day boot that last one or two seasons of hard riding then you buy new ones.

I ride Tech 7’s Mx sole but use them for enduro. I’ve not had much issue with slipping in mud or on slick objects . I like being able to move my foot easily on the peg.  They are very comfortable but some say they lack protection and risk more injury in a crash. So far I’ve never injured my ankles or feet but did get a nasty shin bruise from hitting a rock.

I buddy let me borrow these when I needed them for one ride. IMO actually felt great/worked as needed and it was a muddy ride but waited for some sun to clean/dry them before I gave them back 🙂
