Pants for trail riding

Recommended Posts

I’m over replacing torn gear all the time, I’ve started wearing work cargo pants and my old high vis work shirts, they are much tougher and harder wearing for bush riding, cost the same as cheap mx gear bits lasts ages, I just find one size larger than I usually wear to go over my armour.

Kitted out for Aussie conditions, but im sure bush riding anywhere is pretty much the same.

Don't get Fox or Bilt, they're junk. MSR, Moose and Fly make decent stuff that's not to expensive.

Search for closout stuff to save some

monry.

Agree,   most of the tier 1 vendors are now junk,  Example O'neal Hardware is now made from lycra that ballerina's would be proud of .  If you fall over walking to the car you rip the knees.  I wouldn’t mind it if they dropped their prices by 100% but to keep charging premium prices while substituting Chinese low quality product is just rude

I'm not worried about the fabric being protective offroad other than exhaust on a 4 stroke. My primary injury point has been tree limbs on my forearms. Some areas I used to ride would draw blood every ride.   Cotton shirts are slightly better but hotter than jerseys.

WTF am I looking for?  I looked at a bunch of stuff online and got myself really confused.

Just want something decent. Help!  🙂

Thanks for this thread.  I never thought about wearing over-the-boot work pants like Carhartt and Dickies, but that sounds like a great idea.  And they have pockets!

It only takes a couple times of having your over the boot portion of you pants catching the foot peg as you dismount inducing a nap before one questions “over the boot designs”, especially baggy ones. Just embarrassing most of time but can really hurt to gain “smarts” about the issue. I’m  fond of the tougher stretch material pants that tuck into the boots. Sweet ones have functional zip out scoops for air flow. I also like leather knee patches for grip. Big fan of knee protection not involved with pants. The protection has to be at knee to do much good. Of course if you don’t wear proper boots it’s a moot point. See many out there with Carrhart pants and lace up work boots /cowboy boots looking to be another  statistic on broken body parts and the need for proper safety equipment.

Why would anyone wear heavy pants for a trail ride? Are you so &%$#@!ing good on a bike you simply don't sweat? 🏆

I have never needed to be warmer on my dirt bike, I wear mx gear on snow rides, just throw a very lightweight rain coat over it.

If'n you didn’t ride a 4 broke, you be less hot when riding. Try a smoker and cool off some there hot peppers.

If you pinch with  your knees then knee pads are mandatory. The fabric will rub enough to make a scab.

I used to hop on the bike after work alot with work pants on. I ride easier now but they still aren't my choice.

Been wearing baggy OTB pants since Troy Lee made em. Never had a problem dis mounting or tripping over my “ish”. Maybe because I use the cinches or I’m just one bad ass lucky SOB 🍀. Like really, never heard of that 😂.
