Headlight options

Recommended Posts

So I want to title and ride my 2019 kx450 on the street, seems there's options up till 2018,what changed and what's out there besides amazon and ebay junk? I prolly shouldnt post this in 4 stroke forum but have same kinda issues I see for my 04 kx500,I read that I could use a kdx flywheel and ricky 85 watt stator, anyone have ideas or what works I'd rather not fry a bunch of wires

I installed a Polisport Halo LED on my 2021 kx450x. The X actually has a power port but i couldn't find it. I built a new harness that is relay operated and completely separate from the main wiring, meaning the bike will run like normal. I screwed up the first harness I made because I got too anal about looks and then ended up having wires too short. So I bought a Tusk wiring harness which I am in the process of modifying. Mainly its way too long but otherwise its a pretty decent setup.

Your KX has about 40 watts of extra power so be careful with what you plug into it. It will pull a Trail Tech fan for sure. If you watch their fan install video for the KX on their website, the bike they use was mine.

Going with all LED lights should keep you with in the wattage supply.

I will try to remember to post pics of my bike with the lights. I have it setup where the headlight with horn uses only one plug to disconnect.

On a side note....the Halo LED has this weird "box" that's part of the headlight wiring. looks like a relay but I don't think it is. I'm sure it does something productive. What I don't know. All I know is that it takes up a lot of needless room and the way the wires are routed has made it a real pain in the a**. It has been the root of all of my wire troubles.

So, I already paid for a 2021 KX450x but haven't brought it home yet. If I couldn't put a headlight on it I would most likely be getting my money back so I'm happy to read this post, thank you for that. I found the owner's manual on the Kawasaki website and it says that there's an accessory fuse under the gas tank and the wiring diagram shows a couple of wires after the fuse but I haven't had the chance to check it out yet. I'm guessing that's what you tapped into?

I would really like to add a street legal kit to mine and I did find 2 Tusk Enduro lighting kits. One is a little more because it includes handguards with integrated turn signals (not sure how long until I break one or both of them, 😆) but anyway, I'm looking for the highest lumen output headlight possible without blowing the 10 amp accessory fuse. I'm sure you chose the Polisport Halo LED for good reason. Is it the brightest you could find?

Hi,

I’m in the same situation with my KX250X 2022, with the accessory fuse that I couldn’t locate yet…attempted only once

I am tempted to order the Tusk basic kit or the DRC but I only need headlight and tail light. BajaDesign does a neat switch and cable to use the accessory fuse (I guess) for headlight only but for models up to 2018....

any help, suggestions and experience with this?

cheers
