Brake fluid leak at bleeder screw

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

Is it possible to overtighten the bleeder valve screw at the front brake caliper and cause it to leak brake fluid?

I decided to flush the old brake fluid in my WR155R sometime last month and somehow I may have overtightened and messed the threads up because now brake fluid is weeping around the spot where the rubber dust cover is attached to.

Since it leaks around the thread where the bleeder and caliper meet and not at the bleed nipple, did I strip the threads on the caliper side? What's the best way to fix this?

That bleeder port (screw) is tapered inside where it bottoms out, yes if you cranked it super tight you can strip a thread or crack the caliper. Most likely a spec of dirt got onto that tapered area and not letting it seal tight. Pull the screw and polish the taper and clean out the caliper where it goes.
