Do you even ride bro or just fly planes now? LOL

Need to get some seat time in with us.

It’s been too long. What did you think of the Tenderfoot stuff? DR said you guys rode that a few weeks ago.

I’m tied up through December  but will happily do New Mehico stuff January or February.

Are you willing to do seasonal jetting changes? 2ts are awesome but poorly jetted 2ts arent.

Its worth fixing the squish on any YZ.

If a Yzx suits you good. Adding e start, and stators like some do loses the value arguement.

Resale matter?.  Austrian bikes win here. Youll get much of extra $ back.

If i was riding 5 times a year and budget mattered i surely wouldnt buy new. Find a 3+ year old bike with low hours.

Did you get it yet? My son got a 23 250x a few weeks back, I got a 22 KTM 150xcw.  He added skid, hand guards, front brake guard, FMF silencer (helps some but probably not needed).  The KTM was a little more but had the skid and hand guards, but no disc protectors.  I added the plastic swingarm protectors and this thing that keeps mudflap from rubbing pds shock mount.  He went down 1 tooth in front, no jetting changes yet, we ride tight woods and some open.  I like both bikes.  His has a lot more power but it is still controllable.  They both weigh around the same.  KTM holds more gas and TPI gets better mileage.  But TPI in my mind I always wonder if it is running right, with some people having issues (sensor, aftermarket ecu flashes, all this info and stuff available, etc).  I think the earlier ones moreso.  The YZ just you know, it's a carb, yes could have jetting issues, but still old school and that lends to comfort.  Electric start could be nice at times but not necessary.  Actually twisting throttle and kicking it brings a smile to your face, again old school.  His suspension is much firmer and at first I thought too firm, but we took 3 clicks off forks and after break-in it is in my mind perfect.  The KTM for our weight is kind of pogo stick action.  I'm adjusting to be more like his.  Even in our woods, when you cross a creek bank and it is steep with roots, his front doesn't absorb and bounce you back it absorbs enough and gets you over.   His has more vibration, and feels somewhat different, more stable, longer feel, but still turns good, KTM perhaps more twitchy feeling, looser front, shorter feeling.  But we can swap back and forth and feel comfortable on each instantly.  There is a problem to both, they are 2 strokes and you'll want to ride more.  And yes I sold a 07 yz250f, good bike.  And he has 18 RM450z for sale, good, powerful bike.  MX suspension is rough on trails and 4 stroke is ok but 2 stroke adds something.  To answer your question, stock, maybe some guards and clicker adjustment it is good bike, can handle many types of riding.

Awesome info, thank you for the input!! After reading most of these replies I think my decision is made. I'm sure your new ktm150xcw is a totally sweet bike, but the yz250x simplicity and old school factor just makes me more comfortable. Plus like you said, some protection & clicker adjustments and i'm good to go!

I likely am going to wait til the spring when I have a bit more time and can sell my current bike, the drz. I brought up getting one now to my wife but she wants a new car first before i buy the bike, soo.....happy wife happy life?! I can wait til spring - not much riding between now and march for me normally anyways.

Yes, availability will improve I think.  My son didn't order it but it would be sold quickly I think.  He worked a deal of $8800, I think, then in our state you pay sales tax at titling office.  Mine was $9450 otd, just slightly less than MSRP, but a 22.  Another place quoted me $11,400 on 23 150xcw which are same, only orange frame instead black.  The KTM dealer seemed to have some 22s left so I think availability is improving, which typically helps on price.  Yamaha is probably better value.  I'd consider a 125x for myself but I'm probably too heavy.  The 150 has pretty good torque for what it is.  Yamaha should make the 125x a 150x (144).  And maybe down the road consider electric start if they can keep weight down.  But stay with carb.  My opinion.  We sold the 07 yz250f easily at $2500, but having harder time selling 18 RMZ450 with Yoshi full pipe and other extras for $6k (30 hours).  After getting 2 strokes we want to ride every weekend but can't always,. And they work better at one place where we go with the tighter trails.

Wow the brand new ones at the dealers by me are $7,999. So I imagine by the time I get out the door I could be somewhere around $8800, which kind of sucks. Plus theres only like 2 new bikes anywhere within 100 miles of me, so they likely arent going to budge or give me a deal. And trust me, i would ride every weekend if it was up to me!

I should not have brought up oil but yes, for those who aren't WFO motocross 710 is good. The point I was making is if you don't run the bike very often a lot of people are afraid of ethanol etc. For those it's not a bad idea to add a little StarTron directly to the oil bottle, then you don't have to worry about it. I don't worry about it because I've never had a problem, even letting them sit over the winter.

Once you get the bike, set up, "the jetting/carb situation will" NOT be finicky.

Trust me, you don't wanna bring up oil and ratio! But FWIW I like 40:1

Yes, I started the power jet #40 topic

2t premix doesn't seem to have the same issues with ethanol. Never found algae in mine. 4T on the other hand...

What's the brass fitting on the head? Det sensor? Decompression for the sissy starter?

What's the connector on the left of the cylinder?

They've changed quite a bit from their previous concept engine.

The Yamaha-Fantic-Motori Marelli partnership is interesting and may be a way for Yamaha to test the waters.
