Took my buddies for a spin today, it's a fire breathing dragon and may be a skosh overkill in the tight woods, I used to ride a yz250 in the woods but the TX is on a whole different level    ?

It's kind of scary but would be fun Cross Country, GP or Moto.

Hi my friend.

I´m waiting on mine TX 300, and I´m curious to know more about your experience. Can you share?

Thanks!!!

I rode a 2023 tx back to back with a 2022 TE stock.  It was about 15 minutes of slower semi-technical singletrack.  I didn't even get to 3rd gear but was able to rev it out in 2nd a few times.

The bikes were very similar.  I'd say power off the bottom was about the same.  The TX had more over-rev and felt like it had less flywheel weight, so it revved quicker but the TX lugged just as well as the TE.  The TX felt slimmer with less flex.  The forks had been revalved on both bikes so they weren't stock.

I've heard people say "game changer" and every bike runs a little differently but these bikes were damn similar.  Next time, I'd like to get it on faster trail.

As mentioned above, the 2023 TX 300 is a fire breathing dragon ! A brand new one was just dynoed at a shop here, and did (corrected for altitude) 58rwhp and 39+ftlb torque. The same dyno did some KTM's from 2018 ish years, and showed about 48hp stock, 52hp with squish cut and pv spring dialed in, jetting, etc. The electronic powervalve and ecu mapping is probably a lot of it. Need to tear one down to see what internal changes were made. Some of the KTM bikes have the electric PV, XC and SX models, as well as some smaller bores, 150 XC, etc.

Engine development, ...its awesome !!

I have a 23 TX 300 and here's what i think, compared to a 19 TE300i

  • premix now instead of straight fuel and oil pump.  I like this move, i never have to worry about oil pump dying and frying the top end.  Back to mixing gas and slapping ass for this guy
  • greatly improved throttle response,
  • Same or somewhat improved low end, can chug down to what seems like zero rpm, but honestly my TE300i was pretty good here too.
  • somewhat improved mid range
  • greatly improved top end and over rev
  • nice difference in maps.  Neither map seems to lower the power overall, but white map limits output until you crack throttle over 75%.  Green follows the map and is very aggressive.
  • Overall, greatly improved power and engine characteristics.  Overall power is amazing, on par with my 2022 FX 450, which recent dynos seem to support.  in plain speak, YEEHAW, this sonbitch is fun to ride, smooth but still has a fun hit.
  • Nice improvements compared to previous AER forks (i also have a 2020 FX 450 I'm comparing it too here).   More compliant at top of stroke, rest of the stroke seems similar.  Be prepared to use "sport" or "normal" clicker settings front and back where on a previous cross country bike AER fork you would be at comfort or even softer.   When clickers are where i like them for B class race pace hare scramble riding, sections with lots of rocks/roots are a little bouncy, but i'm only at 3 hours so I'll give suspension time to break in.
  • Chassis is said to be stiffer, I can't really tell.
  • Starts easy, seems to spin faster on the starts, also likes a bit of gas on the starts like a carb bike.
  • Has weird chug/chug/puff stall when you do manage to stall due to low rpm.  Almost like a 4 stroke flaming out.  New map is supposed to fix this
  • I have 5 blink FI code error, does not effect anything, new map is supposed to fix this
  • Like the new chassis/body as far as rider triangle, i'm 6'2" and it feels like it fits me well, and there is a natural place to squeeze your knees.  My 2020 FX450 never had that natural spot.  My 19 te300i did though.
  • new air filter....boo.....I already have like 5 of the old style.
  • new tank has pickup up high; doesn't seem to be an issue but kinda weird
  • fuel tap is now inboard, less chance for catching it and breaking it.  Nice, but harder to route fuel line to disconnect when re-installing tank.  We'll call this a draw.
  • New start button works dandy but the "oh crap in need to re-start before I lose momentum going up this hill" are more difficult now, I'm reaching for the old round button and its not there, just this funky new switch with start/stop that's less tactile.  I'll get used to it.
  • New seat is too smooth.  When its clean i start sliding off.  Works better when dirty, muddy.  Time will tell on this one
  • New foot rests seem fine
  • new kickstand seems fine
  • Can't change spark plug with tank on;  not a fan of this, even though i'm sure this bike will only need new plugs once a season and only because you feel like it.  My TPI never fouled a plug.
  • brakes/clutch provided were Braktec; at first front brake almost killed me.  Bled them, etc, engagement point waaaayyyyyy to close to bars even with adjuster all the way in.  Yanked off plastic adjuster off, now can adjust further in, all good now, feel like magura brakes.  rear brake works great, clutch works great, very smooth engagement
  • Chain provided was MX (no oring or xring).  Not a fan that they did this. Maybe supply issues?  We'll see how long it lasts.
  • New skid plate very nice; bolted in 4 places, seemed like they thought about this rather than stuck one on as an afterthought.  There is an integrated linkage guard, think i'll buy it.
  • New radiator cap is weird but works fine.  If you have trouble getting it off, pull some tension from the overflow hose and it will be easier.  I actually like the look of it compared to traditional cap.
  • I reset power valve end positions just to see how it worked.  Manual says hold at 1/2 throttle while connecting dongle.  If you do that, nothing will happen.  You have to hold at half throttle, connect dongle, hold for maybe 5 more seconds, then release to no throttle.  You'll hear it doing its thing.
