CRF250F vs TT-R230

Recommended Posts

Red bike will always have a higher re-sale interest if/when you decide to upgrade.

Previous CRF230F enjoys a big aftermarket support, not sure how much transfers over to the newer 250F.

Late model CRF250F has fuel injection but, went back to a 5-speed gearbox, earlier CRF230F had a 6-speed like the TTR230.

In the end all three are comparable but myself would probably opt for a Kawasaki KLX230R before a TTR230.

If buying new, available inventory and out-the-door price of either may be the biggest concerns over which specific model.

yep, no reason not to look at the KLX230R if you are shopping for new bikes.  As @mlatour mentions its all about the out the door price.  All these bikes are comparatively low tech....so no reason to overpay for one.

KLX230R is added on the list as well.

CRF250F vs TT-R230 vs KLX230R    I'll check them all three out 'offline,' but not tomorrow, the coming Saturday. All three are air cooled - The way I want.

TT-R230 is winning on the paper as her engine has carburetor. I know a little about how to mess with them. She also has a two-valve engine, which is perfect for me.

KLX230R is fuel injector, but the injection seems to be simple, possibly will run with no issues at all. She has higher seat, must be better for adult size. Two valve design.

CFR250F has 4 valves and comes with more complex injection, which I'll have no idea what to do with it. Despite her higher tech, she has only 5 speed transmission. Definitely a good quality bike though.

I think I'll drop the Honda from my short list. Still, I will take a look at her. At this power range, I seek the simplicity. I guess the contest will be between the Yamaha and Kawasaki.

Curious with the opinions of the community.

CRF definitly faster ..  No doubt ,  but ,  at what price. ?   Dependability. .......

Yeah, too much in peril for a little gain, right? I better leave that kind of headache for the 450CC speeds then.

To spruce up performance a bit, common simple 'un-corking' mods for these types of bikes

is often opening up the airbox for better breathing and, either removing the baffle/spark arrestor or,

installing an aftermarket muffler altogether (can also benefit some weight reduction)

For this I'd favor the carbureted TTR230 as replacing a few jets is simpler and cheaper than dealing

with fuel mapping to compensate for the increased airflow.

That said, I'm usually of the opinion that these bikes should be left stock and ridden within their intended usage.

If you 'un-cork' the engine, you will likely sooner find the limitations of the brakes and suspension.
