AJP Spr310

Recommended Posts

Yup I'll be drilling and putting some wire on that cap.

That is the GPR silencer, just the GPR tag got bashed so I stuck a fancy sticker on it. The stock silencer is thin, AJP have said that GPR gave them the incorrect spec thickness in the first batches but everything after is getting the heavier gauge.

Well I pulled the trigger and bought one. It was way too tall and stiff for me so I had the suspension lowered, resprung and revalved by LT Racing before I rode it.

Unfortunately I've only had one, short ride on it but here's my initial impressions:

Brakes - Strong, well modulated.

Weight - Weighed about 288 on a shipping scale with full fuel. Not sure yet if I can really feel it while riding. I did lay it over a couple of times and was easier to pick up than I thought it'd be.

Engine - Very linear. More low end than my WR250F had, but doesn't have near the top end power ( Not a bad thing on the trails).

Clutch/transmission- Stiffer clutch than I expected, but not horrible. The transmission is very close ratio and I found myself riding in a higher gear than I expected despite very steep terrain. I beat on the clutch all day and it didn't seem to fade.

Details - The foot pegs, linkage, hubs, etc. are works of art. Stock skid plate seems as good as the TM Designworks on my Ranger.

Other:

- Runs hot despite having a fan. Even with the overflow bottle I lost some coolant.

- Good odometer. Includes tach, clock, two trip meters.

- Headlight seems to have a good reflector. Also has an off setting.

More to come after next ride.

Great to see another AJP 310 rider.

Give it more time and then really open up the 310 for a top end power test as you might be surprised when you start working it close to the limiter and powershift. I did upgraded the clutch for a Beta Brembo one and it made a big difference for me, but I had to upgrade the salve also as the Brembo wont work with mineral oil.

I finally got a decent ride on it. The engine lugs pretty well and doesn't flame out like a lot of the bigger bikes. The close ratio transmission is definitely noticeable, which can be good or bad. I was surprised how much I rode in 3rd and 4th and just used the clutch rather than down shifting.

The guy I was riding with, who is 7 inches taller and almost double my weight, rode it and loved it. His only complaint was, with the lower/softer suspension, it bottomed on whoops a lot.

All that having been said, at the end of the day riding that bike wore me out. I think riding a bike that weighs double what I weigh is probably too much for me so I probably won't be keeping it long.

I do really enjoy the motor but I like a close ratio box. I was looking the bike over and I can't see how AJP could shave weight off the bike bar the engine. If SWM would re-release the xlite and AJP used it in this chassis it would be very competitive IMO.

Any updates on your bike? I've got mine listed for sale in the classifieds

Still going strong, just riding the Beta 200 a lot at the moment.

I will probably try move my SPR310 on soon as its starting to age. I want a trail bike and was tempted to covert it but I just don't know if I will get the same use as having a full Enduro.

Late to the thread here...is this bike meant as an enduro or is it a dual sport? The weight is hefty for sure which leads my curiosity. Lastly, the engine is based off of the version prior to the X-Lite yes? How do you think this would compare to the SWM?

This is a scrappy little company that I really want to succeed.  The idea of the pr4 is great. I've never even seen one in person, but as I get older and ride my xr 250 more than my big KTM I appreciate light and simple, but with modern components.

It is AJP's competition bike. They had a proper DS bike being the PR7, leisure being the PR3,4 now SPR125/240. They wanted had a PR5 250 but it was ok competitively but the SPR310/510 took it up a notch.

Always said it, the SPR310 is a modern day CRF250X with a 300 kit. Its the old big block husky motor but IMO the chassis is really good. I have raced it no problem but it is not a hardcore racers bike.

510 should be fun. Rode a husky te510 and loved that motor!

I recently picked up the 510R, two rides so far and both were very fun. Gonna use this primarily as a dual sport, but until I get all those bits together and set up, it will enjoy the AZ desert; where so far it seems to be right at home. Here is a clip of the first ride out, more to come in the coming months as parts start arriving, and cross referencing trial and error begin on other bits...

Is the motor the BMW designed 511 Husky, or something else?

The 449/511 was a Kymco motor from Taiwan. The 510 is from the era just before BMW ownership but with many tweaks. The 310 is from the BMW era (2012-2014). Those 310s were called Husky red heads then. The 310 generation prior (pre BMW) had a black valve cover on the motor. There were differences between them performance wise. The red head was more race oriented. It unfortunately had the bad starter design with the worm gear failures. Has SWM/AJP fixed this? UNK. If I were to buy one, I'd focus on the 510 or the Super Dual X.

I have an old WXE570 husky (TE610 predecessor) that still rips. I've ridden an old TE510 and it had huge torque compared to my old TE511.

I have a 14 te 511, bought cheap used with 114 original miles. with electric problems. Hope I can get it right.  First 14 mile ride, fell in love. Then, no start.

First impressions,  handling, brakes, turning, motor, FANTASTIC!

If it was carbed, or throttle body, I'd be happy.  Now, I'm lost.

You really can't go wrong with that 510. The reliability of the AJP Sprs is second to none really, as long as you take care of it you should have hassle free riding.

Now set up for dual sport riding. Turn signals, mirror, tower, tail rack and Trail Tech Voyager Pro (not installed for this ride). Once I figure out the range I may or may not add an acerbis handlebar tank, in the meantime I have a 1 gallon giant loop fuel bag I will use (only two fill ups to date; 42 MPG)...I plan to go to Vegas for Thanksgiving and am debating taking the SOCAL BDR up there or the AZ peace trail, either way it will certainly get a fair shakedown in the next few weeks.
