2021 KLX300R problem

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm not new here, but had to create a new account because I can't access my old email to reset my password...  Anyway, I just bought a used 2021 300R (my first green bike) and didn't notice an oil leak it had because it was behind the sprocket cover (assumed it was chain oil).  Long story short, It is the stator cover leaking, it's cracked maybe from something coming off the chain and hitting it.  I was wondering (hoping) is this an easy fix?  Is there anything I might need to get besides a new cover and cover gasket?  Thanks for your help!  Also, will the gasket from the older models fit?  Having trouble finding one for a 2021 with quick shipping.  Thanks for your help!

Can you post a pic of the leak site?

Maybe it can be JB Welded.

I removed the countershaft cover this riding season and installed two properly sized bolts to retain the case saver.  While the countershaft cover is supposed to prevent objects from being drawn into the sprocket and chain, in the terrain where I ride, it traps mud and rocks creating the potential for a cracked engine cover or case.  Previously, I had to remove the cover after each ride to remove all of the debris.

I would see if there is a guard to help protect that case.

Ok, got new cover on, all is well!  Really liking the bike so far!

I just had this happen to mine and the marks and cracking look identical.  The bike is barely broken in never down but still managed to pull in a peace of wood I later found trapped behind the cover after noticing a small amount oil in that area.

Did you only have to order the cover/gasket and the gasket for the starter gear cover plate?  How difficult was it to remove and transfer everything over to the new cover?  Thanks for any help in advance.
