Continental Conti Attack SM EVO tires

Hey all, I’m new here and I know everyone hates tire threads...but I’ve done a search and couldn’t really find much info (here or on the web) on the Conti Attack SM EVO tires.  I’ve read a bunch on here about general opinions on the Conti Attack SM tires but not much on the newer “EVO” version.  The gist I gather is that the EVO has some new material  technology that allows it to be as grippy (it not more?) as the non-EVO and that it lasts a little longer.  I was wondering if anyone here has been running the EVO (mostly as a street tire) and can elaborate on tires life.  About how many miles can one expect to get out of the rear, 100% street riding?
 

FYI, I’m new to SM riding and just picked up my first DRZ400SM.  I’ll be riding 100% street.  My street riding will consist of only weekend shenanigans on local mountain twisties.   No commuting.  Because of this, I know I shouldn’t be concerned with tire life but I’m also on a limited budget so I’d like to not have to replace tires frequently if possible.  
 

Other tires I’m currently considering: Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 and Michelin 2CT. If anyone can chim in with your average rear tire life on these two, I’d appreciate it as well.  I’ve read somewhere that they average about 3,000 to 3,500 on the rears?  Just wanted to confirm.

Others with more experience will chime in, but have you considered a high quality sport touring tire like a Road 5?  For street speeds most riders can't (shouldn't on the street) out ride them and you'll get way more life because you still will be on the center of the tire getting to your riding spots...

The Dunlop Sportmax Mutant might be an option. Inspired by the SM rain tire tread and flat track tires, but with an all weather compound.

High performance tires only work well in the right temperature range, which is hard to achieve on the street. The SM is also fairly light compared to a sports bike, so it'll warm up slower. Track tires only work on track, because you push hard and are constantly turning, keeping the temps up. 

I've used the Mutant for quite a while, commuted on them as well and with many, many highway miles, it lasted 5.000 miles for the rear, to front outlasted three rears because they got squared off from commuting. Sides had plenty of tread left.

Super reliable tires in all weather, I rode them year round and never let me down. We got a ton of rain (over 200 days a year), so I need something to does well in the wet and these are amazing. Same for hot weather, in the twisties, even below zero celcius they're fine. Never rode in the snow, but it was cold enough for it. I ride pretty hard, also when I commute. Not speeding, but braking late and cornering hard when there's no other traffic. Always feel confident on them and they fit the look of the SM I think.

The Rosso 3s would last longer, but those evo tires has really good grip. 
 

 

You sure you’re thinking about the right tire? These aren’t track tires. (They’re oem on the husky 701 sm for what it’s worth)

You might be right but I’m fairly certain the evo tire is marketed as a track “supermoto” tire.

Either way the rear conti attack tire I used last fall lasted about 14 days. Incredible grip though.

I’ve looked into the Road 5 and some other “touring” type tires, but since this will be my weekend fun bike I decided to focus more on the sport tires.  I also didn’t mention, I’m in SoCal so there will likely never be an instance when I ride on wet roads. 
 

The general consensus I’m finding is that the top performing sport tires (Conti SM, Rosso 3, 2CT, etc) are all super sticky tires that will likely suffice for a non-track riding noob such as myself.  I likely won’t push the tires to their limit anytime soon.  My main mission is to be cost efficient with the sport tires I choose - meaning I’d like to pick one that lasts longer than it’s competitors in the same field.  Just trying to get feedback from you all that have used these tires to see what sort of mileage you guys are getting from them.  Specifically the Conti SM EVOs since they’re pretty new and I haven’t read much about their supposed longer tread life.

I'd challenge you on the road 5's.  I push pretty hard on the SM around the hills and have found the road 5's as good for grip as the Rosso (2 I think it was) I had a history of getting 5000km (3100 miles) out of rear tire.  The road 5's last way longer than this due to the dual compound composition.

Interesting!  Hmm, I’ll def consider it.  The Road 5’s are about $70-80 more for a set than the Rosso 3 and CT2...but maybe the longer tread life would be worth it?

I am running the Rosso 3's on my Superduke, good tire, fast drop in etc.

If you are looking for a good all around tire for a weekend toy you can't go wrong with the rosso's for the $$.

The conti's are super sticky and honestly sound like more tire then you need being new to Sumo.

Also, in my experience stick to the stock 140/70 rear vs the 150/60, my bike is way more nimble feeling with the 140.

Awesome, thanks for the advice! So I’ve decided to go with either the Rosso 3 or 2CT.  Found a great deal on the 2CTs on Bikebandit ($268 shipped after tax!)...but they don’t offer (or come in) a 140/70 rear.  So I’ve been mulling it over and decided I really want that 140 quick turn in and nimbleness so I went with a set of Rosso 3 tires that I found available in a 140/70 rear.  It cost me a little bit more but I want to try them in the 140.  I guess if I want to try a 2CT 150 rear I’ll only have to wait about 3k miles lol. 
 

I saw that the Rosso 3 front tire is available as a standard 120/70R/17 and a second option in the same size but listed as “D-Spec”.  I’ve read that the D-spec is “softer compound for lighter weight bikes”.  Which do you guys generally run?  Does it matter?  Price difference is $2 so not really a factor.

I daily my DRZ. I also track ride it and practice/compete in motogymkhana on it regularly. I run the Conti Attack SM EVO. If you don't track the bike, you'll get 2k miles out of those tires. More if you dont mind running them all the way down. I swap mine early because by then they're getting heat cycled. I haven't had any set of tires last much longer on my bike in any brand. I was running the Dunlop Q3+ but switched back due to the difficulty to get heat into them without warmers. The Contis heat up faster and will therefore perform better on a street twisty ride. The Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa 9,000,000(long stupid tire names) are good from what I hear but they have worse life and some recommend to only run with tire warmers. Which means it's not going to be as safe as a cold tire, like a normal DOT. The Conti is designed for a Supermoto specifically and is a DOT tire. That's pretty legit.

The Michelin power cup evos are made for supermotos/lightweight bikes so they don’t need warmers either. But they don’t last long on the road as well, maybe 2k miles. But on the track they are incredible.

I want to try the rosso 3s as well, I keep hearing good things.

Thanks for the input fellas.  Ok so I see I can expect about 2000-3000 miles out of these higher performance tires, depending on riding style and environment.  I’ve already ordered the Rosso 3 tires, so hopefully I can get around 3k miles out of them.  I’ll report back!

I’d be interested in your input on those Rossos after you put some miles on them.

What kind of bike? I absolutely love the Michelin power cup evos. 
For track work you can pair the power cup evo rear with the power slick 2 front if you have warmers.

For a Husky 701, I dont want to deal with warmers at this point

I have had the original conti attack sm....the Evo.....and now the newest version of this tire just released and they are calling it the conti attack SM 2.  This tire has been the best supermoto tire imo for legal street use with the only complaint being the mileage. Conti claims the new SM 2 gets 28 percent more mileage.   Check it out....https://www.continental.com/en/press/press-releases/contiattack-sm-2/
