TM Designs Skid Plate?

Recommended Posts

I know this has been discussed a million times, but I am trying to decide between the TM Designs and Enduro Engineering Skid Plates for my new KTM.

It looks like EE also makes 2 versions (Standard and Extreme)

I think I am leaning for towards the TM Designworks

Any reason not to go with the TMD Skid plate over the EE Plate?

Next Question - If I go with TMD - Black or Orange?

I have the EE plate on my 500, it must be the standard because it doesn't wrap very high.  It's very well made, nice thick aluminum, it has already saved me a set of cases when I clipped a stump while leaned over in 3rd gear, bent the plate a little bit right by the water pump but saved the pump and I just bent it back.  The only down side is it doesn't wrap very far around the motor, maybe the extreme version has more coverage.  In any event, the build quality and fit is excellent.

I've used TM chain sliders in the past and they are very well made, so I wouldn't have any problems going with the TM brand either.  Some people say a rigid metal skid plate can stiffen the frame and affect handling a little bit, but I'm not sure if it would be noticeable to the average person or not.

Thanks for the info. The extreme does wrap around more, and EE also has a Swing arm plate that can attach to either plate. The EE Extreme may protect better than the TMD plate.

I put a huge dent in my frame with the plastic TMD one. Not even remotely happy with it apart from it slides over logs and rocks better. Looks beat to hell in 1 year.
I used an EE aluminum one for 10 years on my 07 and it was bulletproof.

I’m now leaning towards the EEX (enduro engineering extreme)

I like the TMD skid plate but not sure how much it will protect compared to the EEX.

I'd say good choice. I will try and get a photo when i get home of the dent in my frame from the TMD one.
I am not sure how you ride but all it took was one rock, whatever size it was. I didn't launch my bike into a planted rock either.
This must have kicked up from the front tire or something.
