Cleaning the tank

So I have some rust in my tank and I was told to buy muriatic acid for that.

Just curious on what everyone thinks I should do.

Go to a Bike shop and find some fuel tank cleaner and prep solvents, Prep-Clean me thinks..

What year/make/model is the bike and assuming its a steel tank, how rusty is it actually?
