Klx110 jetting help

Recommended Posts

I have a 2008 klx110 with an fmf powercore4 no other modifications yet. I’m trying to fix the hanging idle it’s pretty bad and it doesn’t seem to idle until it’s been ridden for a while and it has to be 70+ outside temp to hold the idle. The bike will start easily with the choke but I have to stay on the gas to keep it going. It has a 38 pilot jet and the main looks like it says 82 I’m in Colorado at around 5-6k feet. Also worth mentioning my idle screw is all the way seated and when I mess with the air/fuel screw nothing happens. I plan to buy the adjustable needle and a main jet kit to see if I can tune it with that. So my question is how can I fix this hanging idle? I don’t seem to have a vacuum leak I’ve checked for that.idle only changes if I spray it close to the snorkel in the frame  Also what should I do to fix the idle?
Thanks for any help

I have a 2019 and live at the same altitude. Airbox mod, 5/8" drilled header, stock muffler. When you say idle screw seating, is that all the way in or out, all the way in lifts the slide up and could cause that high idle. We have the same pilot jet, mine rips and wheelies with a lot of grunt off the bottom and idles perfectly. I will see if I can find my carburetor write up, I just used shims and a new main jet size. I would take the carb apart again and reassemble, also make sure the cap is tight, these tiny things are a pain as you pretty much have to take the carb off the head.

Here are my settings for life at 5400 feet.

78 main

38 pilot

air/fuel screw 1-5/8 turns out

Stock needle with 2 of number 2 washer shims

PS my mistake I see you have no idle, still would take apart and reassemble. I will try to find my carb write up

The idle screw is turned all the way in so setting it as high as possible.it doesn’t really idle until it warms up and will idle fine but had a bad hanging idle like you hit the throttle and it has about 4-5 seconds  of just hanging idle then it drops back down to a nice idle only after the bike has warmed up. The hanging idle is always there though. I have a full fmf pipe so the stock header is gone. I do plan to do the air box mod while I’m doing all this jetting work as well. Thanks for your help. I ordered some jets and a needle that’s adjustable so Hopfully those will help. Not sure if I ordered the right size jets though.
