Dirt in oil overflow

I have a 16 kx450f tore down waiting to get anodized. I pulled the oil overflow off an noticed dirt sitting in there. I cleaned what I could with a q tip, then turned the engine upside down and let some oil drain out only to find more dirt sitting in there. Any ideas on how to get it out of there without splitting the cases?

Hmmm. I'd expect the oil filter to catch that.

If you want to remove all of the dirt from the whole engine, I'd suggest you buy a lot of cheap oil from wherever you can and fill it up with that. put in a new filter while your at it. fill it up, idle it for at least 10 minutes or more, then drain it. keep repeating until the oil is clean, then check your filter to see if it is still usuable, and put in your usual oil.

Its inside the overflow on top the engine, it's actually higher then the fill cap. I want to pull it back out the top somehow rather than push it threw the engine. But I might have to pour oil back threw the overflow then rinse

you mean the oil tank/resovoir? i don't know if all bikes have them, but mine does. like the post above me said, its better if we can see a picture. i never heard of an oil overflow.

The breather on top of the engine case. I'll post a picture in the morning.

That thing? Pretty sure thats just a pipe from the cylinder to the crankcase. If there is dirt in there, youll have to flush it like I said.

 

extra tip, if you need to check oil pressure, loosten that bolt that goes into the cylinder and wait until oil starts seeping out.

Crankcase breathers 'pulsate' meaning puffs of air go in and out, more so at idle. Oil fumes, combustion by-product fumes, moisture condensation and air. It is not uncommon for the fumes to condense inside the hose. Dust gets pulled in the hose, touches the condensate and the dust collects. The amoiunt is usually very insignificant. Though if left unchecked on a worn engine, it could be a issue though honestly, it is just one of many signs of neglect and grime in a breather is typically the least of the problems.

Other than general maintenance, removing the hose from time to time and cleaning it, some have added a small filter to the end. Other vent it into the air box or better still, into the airboot.

Read your manual about what bolt, if any, you can remove to confirm oil flow. That bolt in the picture is the cam chain tensioner. You breather tube nipple looks spotless inside.

Here is some advice, you should stop giving advice.  Or maybe put a disclaimer letting the reader know that you have no idea what you are talking about.

My bike has that, I thought that it was like that on (most) bikes..

You couldve been a little bit less agressive, but ok.

The engine oil pressure lines and fittings shown above have nothing to do with the engine crankcase breather system being discussed.  :doh:

 

You need to stop trying to give advice about things you don't understand and motorcycles in general.   :prof:

Stick to just asking questions.   Listen and learn, with time hopefully you'll start to get a clue.   :moon:

I'm not trying to hurt anybody, man.. I gave what I thought was good information, turns out it didn't apply on this particular make/model. I gave an explanation on what was in my mind when I posted that. Most of the time, on other threads, a lot of people would say I give pretty good advice. This was a one-time or two-time thing.

 

I was confused if there is supposed to be a tube connecting those two things like on my bike or what... I thought it would be weird if there was just a hole in the engine case, so I assumed that he took something off. Tell me what I got wrong and problem solved.
